A friend got this bass a month ago. The quality is astonishing for the price. "Beginner" basses were never this good. It does require a proper setup when you get it but the tone and playability is great. The peg tuners aren't great, but they aren't terrible either. I'd say they are the weakest point of it, which really taks about how good the overall instrument is.

I like the fact that Anthony plays actual, real world basslines and not a noodle salad of solo self-masterbation (like most do). Great bass BTW (even for a seasoned player). I received my 2 weeks ago. An absolutely brilliant Mod platform.

It's not about whether it's good for the price it's about 'Does it do the job?' These basses cut through on a mix and sound really good full stop!

Not to be to cynical, but I'm assuming it was played through a nice amp. Fit and finish is normally the issue with lower priced gear, so I'd be interested to hear what a few different people who bought these think. I don't imagine there'd be too many complaints at that price, I guess.

Have one got last year and love it also have a short scale bronco. Nice to have two for different sounds will do upgrades with better tuners.

Hello Anthony ! I own a Squier VM P/J from 2019 and the jazz pickup his as closed to the bridge as my other Squier Jazzbass CV 70s. I was wondering if the one you did review also had the same jazz pickup spacing ? And could you measure the body thickness ? I heard those affinity have a thinner body which could make them lighter (my back would be pleased to hear weight of that lake placid one). Thanks again for those nice reviews. The Affinity basses are not thinner, they just have more contoured edges. My Squier Affinity Precision feel slightly lighter than the standard Precisions with P/J configurations. Quick tip: The wider your strap is, the lighter your bass will feel.

The only thing I don't like of the version I'm thinking to buy (the black one, maple freatboard) is that the neck looks very cheap, with that too light maple neck... Any way to make it darker?

@anthony: Last gen Affinitys were kinda ok for a 'my first bass' situation, is this one so much better? I know Squier is always improving and you got me thinking maybe they really got to work on the QC on the Affinity line.

Very close in quality to the MIM (I have both). Great bass for hauling to and from rehearsals (and the occasional, dodgy gig) which I dare not do with my CS basses.

@@TenFalconsMusic I love my squier bass guitars, I have a vintage modified Precision bass PJ in lake placid blue, a VM 70s jazz bass, and Classic Vibe 60s precision bass. They all compete with my Fender Vintera 50s P bass and that cost as much as all of the squiers combined-$1000. The vintera is still my number one but these are great backup instruments and even gig worthy guitars.

Tried one at my local music store, right of the box and the setup was terrible. The saddles/action were quite high, but it was buzzing like craaaazy all over the place. Middle of the neck was basicly pitchless from the weird setup. I was quite temped before, but now I'm afried to pick one up.. :/

The same thing happened to me so I ordered one online at Guitar Center and luckily mine came out Excellent. Just had to lower the action a bit but it looks and plays 10/10 for me.

Affinity series definitely takes a little TLC to get into playable shape. That's why we set them up before they are shipped or purchased in store. Once they get dailed in, I'm always impressed at the sound for the $$! Thanks for watching - Anthony

They can certainly be inconsistent. We sell tons of Squier, and occasionally they need more than just some truss-rod love to get playable. On the contrary, others play amazing right out of the box! I think that's the nature of the pricepoint. Keep in mind... if you buy from us in the future, we do a full setup before the instrument ships. If we find any issues that we're not comfortable with we make sure to contact the customer and offer a solution. Thanks for watching - Anthony
