The issue with the frets being that way, the frets are just unpolished which is why they feel like that, play it for a couple weeks and that dissapears and they’re great

I think these Indonesian made guitars are great guitars all round. Not just for beginners. Also, the unpolished frets are a feature. They add treble to the sound it makes when amplified. Anyway, they go smooth enough after a few weeks of constant playing.

With a guitar at this price point it's a good idea to change the factory-installed strings, and to polish the frets while you're at it. That should fix the scratchiness. I also think it's a good idea to swap the factory saddles out for roller saddles, which helps tuning stability.

In the mid 90s I got my first electric guitar, a black Squire Bullet Series. This one was weird, though, because on the headstock, the "Fender" was the big logo and "by Squire" was in small type off to the side. Then it had "Bullet Series" on the end in the rounded part of the headstock. I think it was made in Korea.

The Squier Bullet Stratocaster sells for $239 plus 13% today ( October 2021) in Ontario Canada. I tried a few low cost Squier strats and found the Bullet model to be lighter and easier to play (nicer neck) than the others, including the Affinity. I bought a beautiful hard-tail white one (HSS) in 2019 ($199 plus 13% tax) and have been very pleased with it. It's got a very slim neck, great action, and a nice humbucker at the bridge that is great for solo work. The body is extra slim and light which I also love and guitars can get to be a heavy load for long performances. Fret fit and polish have not been issues with this guitar. Perhaps a little fret roughness provides better prolonged notes when rubbing for sustain? Anyway...not a problem. :-)

The beauty of the Bullet's price point. Reselling it works out to be a modestly affordable rental of an instrument. How many end up quitting just the same. A $ 200 guitar doesn't have much value to lose, 50% is $ 100. That much is a given on any guitar as a preowned, I have a Bullet & Affinity, the Bullet gets played more. The Bullet was my 1st Strat, it is a SSS HT. I would say it's on par with the Affinity at least. Where it probably is lacking is feel vs a full thickness body Strat. But that also keeps it under 7 lbs. That might matter for a beginner or even more advanced player with back issues ? I heard some pretty solid sounds from this video. Scratchy frets, those play in eventually, or one can clean them up with rubbing compound.

I mean, this is about the cheapest and easiest thing to correct yourself, isn´t it? I´d say if you are in the market for a cheap guitar, learn how to correct the easy flaws yourself, and avoid guitars that have more serious issues, no?

I just bought a full-size headstock Squier Stratocaster with the 70s logo with a glossy headstock. 50s style vintage tuners. Extremely lightly lacquered fingerboard just waiting to wear the lacquer off and look really cool. Surprisingly a tremolo unit that works absolutely insanely good without going out of tune and it's on a 2-point fulcrum instead of being a six-point tremolo the two-point is more like the 80s style tremeloes. In over a hundred guitars this is the only one I have ever been able to keep the tremolo bar and used without jacking the bridge to the back of the body( BTW Maple fingerboard Fulton Hendrix Woodstock style I even bought a matching strap)

@@MrPolevaulter Fair enough but in any hobby enthusiasts tend to always suggest _the next price point_. I have a 5 year old that shows interest in electric guitar. Kid goes to a band class whereas I am totally amusical myself - or at least always thought so. (But secretly dream that I would practice with the instrument too, def. 2ndary consideration). If not this then what would be your suggestion for a very cheap setup. Being that my use would be for a young kid? Relevant facts are: zero confidence that the hobby will pick up steam and re-sale value is not really a factor (chances of survival are 35% and I just generally don't count getting money back on used things). @dimitris470

These are often bullshit. Any person with some experience can identify them blindfolded just by playing a simple chord, checking the action or doing a couple of bends. Unless of course they properly setup all the instruments and finished the frets on the cheaper ones.

If you want to build a partscaster buy one of these instead of a Fender body. These are on sale for $179 and a Fender body direct from Fender cost about $249. All of the fender parts including the neck will be interchangeable with the Squier body. The input jack and bridge are fine and are probably the same quality as a MIM Fender. I am seriously considering doing this as a project.

Beginners just can't appreciate how good affordable (cheap) gear is today. At 14 first guitar was a second-hand Watkins Rapier 22 with a banana neck (no truss rod). The sadistic bastard in the music shop sold me RotoSound heavy gauge strings. My lead was scrounged coaxial cable from a TV. My "amp" was was the deadly innards of a valve record player which made the whole guitar live. I had to stand on a rubber mat to play and avoid grounding anything. Pedals? Don't make me laugh. Could not afford pedals.

If these are good enough for Mike Rutherford to tour with, they are good for anyone. Yeah they need some tweaking, but for the money they are excellent. And lets not foul ourselves, even much more expensive guitars have lots of QC issues. I have the hardtail version of this and a tele, and I love both. With some fret work to fix some random unevenness and buzzing and a graphtech nut they are excellent. Oh and you need to tighten the tuner nuts (again very common even on more expensive instruments). A good tech should be able to fix it nicely for more or less how much the affinity would cost (the affinity is a waste of money imo). I planned to change to locking tuners, but did not bother to do it after all, I never had problems with the cheap ones. Only the switch got scratchy after a couple of years, but this quite common even with more expensive instruments, and it's quite easy to fix.

If you want a squier I wouldn’t buy the bullet or infinity series. Due to their thin body’s making upgrades later on an issue. the squier standard which usually comes with an amp in a package deal is cheaper than the infinity and has a standard size fender body. So does the classic vibe. If you play long enough you will always want to modify something later on even on a $3000 guitar is just the way it goes

I just got a new bullet strat yesterday. Biggest issue I have is the neck with the grittiness of it, I wonder if a conditioner or oil would help out with that? Going to restring this weekend and check out the local store to see if there’s anything I can use to make the neck more comfortable to play.

2 years late, but whatever. I wouldn't say it's a good beginner guitar per se. Rather it's a good MODDER guitar. Cheap enough to throw it away without hard feelings if you screw up, yet good enough to yield some nice results from modifying it. In fact, I did just that when I bought my Bullet: I polished the frets, installed a bunch of little but important new details (good springs, bone nut, locking tuners), set the guitar up, and now it plays almost as good as my Contemporary Strat with FR at barely half of it's cost (almost, because six screw trem just barely stays in tune... and the Contemporary Strat is PINK). The only caveat is you have to search for a good unit, Indonesian/Chinese manufacturers rarely make all cheap guitars good (or at least, good enough for the buyer to finish the job). In fact, something close to a Classic Vibe or Contemporary Series in terms of price would be better suited for a beginner, since such guitars are better set up from the factory (and rarely any newbie cat set it up the right way from the start).

100 bucks in a good tech and problem solved. An affinity version or other similar ones would cost more, and would still have the same problems. The biggest issue is going to be that techs will probably look down on it and probably won't give it the proper attention. So yeah, a modder will probably be able to get its full potential. I only changed the nut on my hardtail. And the switch after a couple of years because it was getting scratchy, but that is very common. Now it's time for its annual maintenance, and I am itchy to upgrade something, but honestly I do not really have a problem with it. Maybe I am going to use some locking tuners that I have around, but I never had a practical issue with the stock ones.

It seems to have a rattlely harshness to the sound, particularly clean. Probably a combination of ceramic pickups, light strings and not a perfect set up or, just my ears. I had to polish the frets on a new Ibanez AS93, and that was 4x the price of the bullet. For me, if the necks not great and the guitar does resonate well unplugged, I won't consider upgrading any parts.

Gritty fret wire sucks. I like to use .000 steel wool. Cover the frets and pickups with painters tape, or better remove the neck and really make those things shine. With a little work including setting the action and intonation, these guitars are outstanding. It just falls to the consumer to do more quality control, but for that price, no worries. The bodies are a little thin, but I'm not so it's easier on the back!

Man I found a shell pink one at the pawn shop that had some upgrades done to it already I put a great bridge and saddles with full size tone block and I am just floored at how well it plays and feels And sounds surprisingly well but probably going to put top shelf pickups in it And believe it or not I find myself playing it as much or more than my 65 and 72 vintage Strats It's got a fat slab fret board 9.5 radius Hate to say this but sounds so much better than yours but not original pups I got lucky and have really bonded with it So going to upgrade everything that's needed and probably sell the 65 now the prices are so crazy and keep the 72 maple board Strat Go two Strats and a LP and concentrate on my vintage amps It's a shame the day of the stacks have gone bye-bye Still keep my Anniversary slant 4/12 though I have a 100 watt Tonemaster so when needed Cheers great playing Actually yours sounds better than I originally stated but a bit thin with gain Great looking as well My 72 is blonde with maple
