I found one at my guitar center and I couldn't keep it on the rack, it definitely has a great growl to the stock pickups with a smooth feel adequate tuners and it looks bomb, you can usually find them for sale on ebay unopposed because people don't like the price point (after all save $200 more and you can get a MIM) it comes with an 'ashtray' cover over the bridge and a 'thumb pull' but those are usually taken off by the previous owner lmao for what it is: 10/10 definitely worth the 400 new but you can def find a cheaper one on the used market.

I have been playing bass pretty much as long as Dave and greatly respect what he has done and how he shows people how to get yourself fixed up and going which is something you would not have got from people even 10 yrs ago. Years after selling my white maple neck 77 American p bass ( and regretting it now) a friend of mine that works at the "brand name" music store told me about the white matt freeman p bass (also classic vibe series) this was a few years back and it was $379. I went in and lined up all the j basses from affinity to American Standard. I was shocked that it felt, played and sounder (in my opinion) better than the mim standard and to my ears was identical to the made in America special that Dave works on in one of his next video, The neck was spot on and had a tiny bit of back bow and still set a 5/64 did not buzz anywhere on the neck! I was able to set it a 0 relief and 4/64 string height and still no buzz. This is why I believe Fender all but dropped the line as it was probably going to be the next 80's mij squire and did not want it to cut into the sales of there "better basses"

Thought that was a stupid observation by the presenter. Of course it's not "the real thing", it's a modern bass guitar throwback of a 1970s Precision. It's called "Classic Vibe", because it's a Precision but with a modern C shaped neck profile instead of the Precision baseball bat width neck of an actual 1970 vintage Precision. It has nothing to do with it not being "the real thing".
@greggjohnson3057 жыл бұрын
The one in my avatar has that baseball bat neck. It's a 77 P bass. I love that thing. Plays like butter. It's heavy. I have a 79 Fender P that's light as a feather. Never played a Classic Vibe, though. I've only heard good things about them.

According to the specs this bass is built with a basswood body. Without going into the discussion if it's a good tone-wood or not... how durable is it on these basses? Some say the wood dents and chips easy, and even bridge-screws come loose. What's your general experience?
@savanaviolenta7 жыл бұрын
Yes,the basswood bodies are softer woods they are prone to dings if you drop the bass badly.Tone wise they're ok for w budget brand guitar makers.They do the job and if you are not well aware of a good tone of a P bass that classic vibe will do the job.If you've already played a higher end basses then you know what a good consistent tone is.The frequency spectrum on these expensive basses is well tough out.The pickups are Alnico ,the woods are selected ones to fit exactly the specifications of the pickups,the finish is different ,electronics ,labor and so on.Thats why they cost three times or more.The American instruments are just better build quality and like a instruments just resonates better,they're just superior.I am not saying lower budget instruments are bad,no there are very well made inexpensive and great sounding instruments.What I am saying is a good instrument will always play like a butter.

Dave! Love the channel. What size feeler gauge are you using to check the neck relief at the 7th fret? Is it the same for a Jazz Bass?
@lostcityrocker496 жыл бұрын
I have one of these and I absolutely love it... one issue I came across setting it up though was that I wasn't able to get the string height below 5/32" without the saddle resting directly on the bridge, so I'm curious how he was able to set the action so low here. I was thinking I'd have to switch out the fat brass saddles with smaller ones from the bridge I replaced on my Fender. Any ideas? Neck is straight and nut height is perfect, I'm hoping I don't have to stick a shim under the neck.
@bernardjharmsen3044 жыл бұрын
A shim in the butt end of the neck pocket will fix it. Then readjust bridge action and intonation. Much simpler than modding the bridge.
