In this video I conduct an informal review of my two Squier Jazzmasters. Both are excellent guitars, but have key differences. tristamlass.wordpress.com/ tristamlass.bandcamp.com/ #guitar #squier #jazzmaster #fender #classicvibe

What do you think of the pickups? I love Squiers, but I haven't found one that I'm not practically required to change the pickups on.

To be fair, I have not played many jazzmaster pickups in my life, so I’m not an expert on them. I like the tonal range these offer and the output is good. They are quiet as well, I didn’t expect that. I’m sure a jazzmaster expert would criticize them, but Robert Baker liked them in his 40th Anniversary and he’s a great and knowledgeable player.

@@fearlessdiymusic Yes, that's usually the issue: noise. Even with the humbuckers. Jazzmaster pickups in particular are noisy due to the large surface area of the coils. I don't know who robert baker is. But for recording, pickups really stick out as far as noise, clarity, definition and so on, especially with clean tones. For that Squiers play great, but pickups have to go.

I have recorded a bit with these and nothing came up that annoyed me. I will probably upgrade one of these to better pickups and do an A/B test.

@@fearlessdiymusic If you think it's necessary. I made a Jazzmaster thinline last year. Kind of skimped on the pickups, getting the Fender Pure Vintage '65 set. Too much treble and noise for me. Trying to keep the noise floor to an absolute minimum for fidelity. Looking at EMGs.

If you get the EMGs I'd be really curious as to how they sound . . . @@thedobermans
