Kiara has known the squirrels ever since her arrival and they have a wonderful mom that teaches them to be kind 😊 to one another I have an older large dog that lays on his bed in the yard and my little squirrel would run past him and sit very close to him and my dog would just go about his business. It’s so wonderful when animals of all kinds can coexist with eachother

I use to live in a heavy wooded area with at least 30 squirrels on my front yard at a time even though I didn’t feed them back than and I had a Rottweiler that didn’t pay them any mind. I guess because she was a puppy when I got her and as far as she remembered they were alway all over the place outside. She liked cats and other small critters. I rescued a guinea pig once and allowed him to run around the house for periods of time and she never once messed with him either. He would come up and check her out and she would sniff him and inch away when he would squeal. I always observed closely. She didn’t like big dogs too much but anything smaller than her was her friend.

i got a momma squirell and her babies living in a hole under my window.. sometimes daddy shows up and checks on them and she runs him out of the nest, then he goes and marks the nearby trees and leaves. ... i dab her a little peanut butter on the window seal and keep her a bowl of water just below in a tree.. it helps her a bit.

Almonds are the best nuts for squirrels because they have the most calcium. Hazelnuts are the second best. I am glad you give them calcium treats!

It is funny Manny peels almonds that don't have a shell! I get almonds, pecans, and hazelnuts in their shells for my squirrels. It gives them something to do and helps them keep their teeth from overgrowing. It also helps keep the birds from eating all their nuts! The blue jays and crows often steal the roasted unsalted peanuts and the unshelled nuts I put out for the squirrels, but not the hard nuts in shells.

As a teenager my parents would holiday in a log cabin in Wales. I would feed the very tame Squirrels every day. We holidayed their for 5 summers. I noticed the same Squirrels, same markings appearing year after year and one or two seemed to remember me which i was amazed at and follow me through the woods. The owner of the holiday cabins told us all the guests enjoyed feeding them. It was then i realised the Squirrels probably recognised dozens of people even after a gap of a year between visits. Truly amazing little creatures.

I feed squirrels at my house too. I feed them sunflower seeds & peanuts which they love. The birds love the sunflower too. I also have a couple wild rabbits that visit my back yard at night & I leave apples & carrots for them. But if they don't come & eat their apples...the squirrels will eat them up! So that's another thing the squirrels absolutely love...raw apples! You may want to try some apple for your squirrels.🐿️

My squirrels keep an eye out for when i come out the back door, and i had better put something out for them before i feed birds or do any work in the garden! Your squirrels look so healthy! I suppose i ought to give them calcium and vitamins, but they like to tear apart my flowers, so I’m not sure how much i want to encourage them beyond food and water.

I use to live in a balcony apt. My son always wondered what happened to our bulbs when they didn't flower. Well alot less than what we planted. we began noticing every morning like clock work, a certain squirrel running the length between our apts and golf course fenches. He run up to neighboring car port, go to its very end look at our balcony, chatter, run back around what he had just traveled. Then in a few moments, there he was on our balcony rifling thru our plants! I loved it! My son didn't lol I've even played hide n seek with one coming out of a tree at our nearby bakery. I had to tell him bye, cause i was gonna be late for my bus and thanked him for the fun time we spent. So cute and not always afraid of humans.

I always think that squirrels are very "mathematical" about eating. I used to have one I would feed regularly and I gave it a cracker once and it nibbled at it from right to left, then it would turn it 90 degrees then repeat until it was all gone. I gave it a grape once and it ate all the skin first before eating the fruit inside. I appreciate that. I gave it an oreo once and it held it vertical and spun it like a spinning wheel licking the cream from the inside and then dropped it when its tongue couldn't get to it anymore, I guess. I only did the cracker and the oreo once cause I was outside snacking. Beyond that regular nuts and things. :)

Nuts(walnuts, pecans, almonds and dry roasted peanuts) without shells from a local Price Chopper, nuts in shells from Amazon (you can find the link for it in the description), and occasionally fruits(blueberries and grapes). And I also prepare for them calcium-vitamin treats at least once per month.
