Fine work, thank you! Something to add: I was not raised hunting, and for some time was "treated" to vegetarian meals only. After developing health problems, and since I am a trained scientist, I researched food choices and realized many of us are harmed by not including more animal products, and that includes bones/brains. I now squirrel hunt with my sons and save the hands/feet/head to make bone stock. Using lead free ammo since I don't toss any parts, in case it matters. Awesome resource for anyone feeding kids (or pregnant women) is "Deep Nutrition: Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food" by Dr. Catharine Shanahan. Masterpiece text every hunter should check out.

Yes small game would be important for sustenance. Large game would be killed off almost immediately in an apocalyptic scenario. Even chipmunks and mice could be protein sources. Also, the best all around gun to own if you want to have a firearm is a .22 rifle. It's easy to carry lots of ammo and it can take down any animal if properly used.

Great video. I recently challenged myself to go squirrel hunting with my Ruger Mark III .22 Target pistol. It's got a 5.5 inch bull barrel, and for what it is, it will drive nails if you do your part. A CHALLENGE it was indeed. Lol. An awesome experience to say the least. I'm looking forward to muzzleloader deer season coming up on the 8th of November here in VA. Last year's deer season wasn't very successful. The acorns last year were VERY scarce, and the ones I did find were all rotten. This year is looking up in the acorn department. Right now, the bucks are in pre-rut. Well, I hope you tag the buck of a lifetime. Your videos really are a testament of hunting, how to be efficient at it, and how to do it safely. I know I have learned a lot from your deer butchering videos. Be safe, and good luck hunting this year.

My dad hunted as a kid, but he has a bum leg now and hasn't really seen the need to teach my brother and I how to hunt, or how to fish for anything bigger than a cutthroat trout. My brother and I are getting highly valued college degrees, so _obviously_ we don't need to know how to catch/grow our own food (eye roll). And mom grew up in the city, so it's not like she could pass on this type of knowledge. I'm admittedly squeemish about animal products, but I hope to be able to make my own food so that I can give more of my income to the people who really need it. Keeping people alive when capitalism tries to murder them is probably a decent use of my time. Anyway: thanks for making such an informative video! With practice, I might even be able to get lunch without losing a finger! 😁 I only have a couple scars from growing up in suburbia, but I think I might fix that once I get some hands on learning. 😅

@@hard2getitrightagain314 There aren't really any non-capitalist countries. The US is very good at destroying non-capitalist them before they get established. Even ostensibly socialist or communist countries are capitalist: China is authoritarian capitalist, the folks in charge may call themselves commies, but you're still SOL if you're poor there. If I lived in a world without the US waging wars against leftism, I probably wouldn't have to learn how to hunt because they wouldn't leave people to die of starvation/exposure/lack of medical care. Besides, being poor is already functionally illegal here in the US. What's a broken poaching law when you're already smothered in inescapable debt?

@@aldenheterodyne2833 I am impressed and alarmed by your answer. You aren't wrong about China, at least you were not wrong for the last decade or so. Currently the regime there is brutally lessening its tolerance of individual achivement at a rapid pace. I'd happily join you in a world in which the USA intereferes much less within and between other nations. As for the notion that there are no non-captialist nations ... well I suspect that you are not looking to have your views adjusted so I will leave you, respectfully, more or less as I found you except to point out that while all systems produce poverty and poor people, no nation has ever enabled such a huge portion of mankind to enjoy such wealth and prosperity as the one of which you now complain.

@@hard2getitrightagain314 Cards on the table: I'd really like to see the list of countries you think are socialist/communist. Fair warning though, I will try to prove that either: 1) that country is actually capitalist and this doesn't count as socialist/communist. 2) that country was destroyed by capitalists before it could get established, and it's thus unfair to compare a socialist/communist country that's trying to get it's start with an established capitalist country. And it's unfair to compare a wartorn socialist country to a peacetime capitalist country. 3) that capitalists do as bad or worse things than what you're taking issue with. And therefore it's problem not exclusive to socialism/communism. Bonus points if that worse thing is currently happening in modern America. I'm trying to make it so that I can't move the goalposts on you, so I'm laying out what I see as the most likely examples that you'll show me. Is that fair? If you think those three things are unfair for some reason, lmk.

I am new to squirrel hunting--haven't actually gone yet. I want to use a CZ 452 American with scope. One thing has me concerned... if I miss, where will the bullet land? When the squirrel is sitting on a branch high in the tree, can a shot be taken safely with a .22? I will most likely be hunting public lands. I have been told not to take the shot unless there is solid wood behind. Another said don't worry about taking the shot because the bullet will land with little force and not pose a safety issue. As an experienced hunter, can you address my concern? I love your videos.
@field2feast
@field2feast 9 жыл бұрын
In practically every shot you will take there will be foliage behind the squirrel. Also, the velocity will reduced to the point of a small rock falling from a tall building. It could in a freak situation hurt someone, but not likely. Also, remember that hunting with a powder burner only takes place in the woods far from populations of people.
