To help with the toughness slice across the front and back legs of the Squirrel where the muscles and tendon attach to the bone. Boil and fry until Golden brown. Then ask mammie how to make a sawmill gravy. Put the squirrel back in the gravy and simmer on low heat for 1 hour. Make some rice or mashed taters and enjoy. That’s a full proof Squirrel 🐿 recipe.

The first shotgun I ever shot was my grandfather's 870 16 gauge. That gun has now became my most valuable firearm I own. My grandfather was an avid turkey hunter. He had this ability to hunt gobblers like nobody's business. He knew literally every single tree on our property that had birds in them, he knew where they were roosted, what time they would come off the roost, where they would go from the roost, you name it. But in 2010, he passed away from cancer. I miss that man more every day, especially now that his great grandson is here without him. PapPap, I know you're busting heavens turkey's now, but I wanna let you know your great grandson is bringing out your shotgun this weekend. I miss you, I hope you're proud of the man I am today, and if you and the Lord bless us with a bird this weekend, I'll make sure to update your feathers on the stone. Love ya old boy!

KG, did you cut off the scent glands, which helps prevent the gaminess in the flavor? To help with flavor and tenderizing, I usually soak squirrel meat in salt water and lime juice for about an hour, then rinse it lightly with cold water before vacuum sealing it to store in the freezer. I follow that same process if I'm going to cook it right away too. You can also use distilled white vinegar or apple cider vinegar instead of lime juice. You can also use an Italian dressing (vinegar base) as a marinade to help tenderize the meat and help with flavor, before adding any dry seasonings.

A friend of mine sometimes brings his dad's old 16 gauge to target practice with us. It shoots sweet, pinpoint accuracy with a shotgun, but that thing actually kicks harder than our 12 gauge buckshot loads. But his is the only one I've ever shot that kicked like that, most of the rest are comparable to a 20 gauge. We've got no idea what his dad did to it, and he only uses federal high brass #6 shot game loads, so we've got no idea why its such a shoulder breaker. But his last turkey season fb post shows it'll blast a turkey in the face at 50 yards.
