Squirrel Life 14 - Meet the Boomers Chapter 2: No Sharing

We know how aggressive and noisy red squirrels can be. This chapter shows some of the regular daily action around the new piano squirrel feeder back in the summer of 2020. The gray/black squirrels actually share the food reasonably well as they take turns getting peanuts. Then the red squirrel shows up and tries to take over the feeder for itself. Feisty little guy!

The red squirrels definitely have small man syndrome lol! They rarely back down from any other squirrels who are all bigger from what I've seen

Some of them are less aggressive. It depends on the individual. But you are correct, they definitely pack a big punch for a small package!

It seems like their competitiveness is not ideal for the species to thrive, and their noisiness I imagine would attract predators. I wonder how / why they are so successful as a species.

Interesting thought. My experience watching them is that they have really good defensive instincts. They have excellent eyesight to spot birds or other critters and we all see how fast they are. Catch them if you can! 😂
