I love the red squirrels. It is amazing that your new new little girl squirrel allowed you to get closeups. I have in my backyard also one female red squirrel that can come eat a nut from my 2 fingers. I called her Rustina. But when I see her chase all my grey squirrels in the backyard, I start calling her ‘Boomer’ too! They sure love to chase other squirrels. Never a dull moment with those guys.

I'm watching an elaborate red squirrel turf war out back daily. Plus one brave chipmunk trying to make his way through it. There is a clear alpha who will act as my personal squirrel guard with furry fury. That is, protect his walnut source from other squirrels until he's full. Another visitor is missing an eye and has a gnarly scar. I like to think he's the former king, lol!

That's awesome! Yeah those alphas can be brutal to the others. I try to help the weaker ones by sneaking them some food when he's not looking.

I have squirrels myself. The worst for chasing is a female called Smidge. She will chase every other squirrel even the last alpha male. But if I shout "Smidge, get here and leave them alone",she will stop and walk over a child that's been told off and let you pet her and hand feed her, recently brought 3 of her babies with her to me. Squirrels are super intelligent and each generation, mine seem to be getting smarter.

@@mixer6166 I absolutely understand I've been feeding them for about 10 years now. I have 5 I can shout by name, Tina, Smidge, Diddy, Titch and Fievel. The others aren't onto it. Tina has figured out how to get to the upstairs window so she climbs up to find me. I don't know how anyone doesn't understand them. They're a lot smarter than most dogs I know

@@macdapimp83 I started in 2020. I went to war with them over the bird feeders and I lost so now the squirrels have feeders too. LOL.

@@mixer6166 Oh you have twin soul out there in Squirrel world. This guy used to set up harmless but funny obstacles for the fox squirrels in his back garden. They were never hurt - except occasionally a bruised ego! I was amazed at how persistent these squirrels were. Like your own channel I learn so much from seeing these lovely animals deal with situations they encounter.
