Google ‘do squirrels sunbathe’ it’s literally a thing they do. They’re not trying to get a tan like humans lol. But they do lie down in the sun to absorb heat. They lie on their bellies as the most efficient way. The sun is warming their backs, will the bellies are on the sun warmed surface.

Squirrels do this for heat, lots of animals do it.
