I'm catching up to the manga soon and soon I'll also have to experience the pain of waiting for new releases but my plan is to re-read many volumes and read another manga like collect and focus on another manga in the meantime I'm waiting. I'm probaply going to collect more of the Bungo Stray Dogs manga because that's also one of my favorite. Black Butler is mu number 1 and Bungo Stray Dogs is my number 2 ^-^

Very strange because my interest in Black butler was recently resurrected, maybe a month or so ago. Simply saw and Undertaker Funko pop online for a good price, remembered how badly I wanted it when I was younger but never found it anywhere, I bought it and that's been that ever since. I've watched the anime, read as much of the manga as I can afford (the first 3 volumes) and I found all the other Funko pops I needed to complete the collection. I'll always love the rotting corpse of the most elegant goofy anime I've ever seen, and it'll always have a special place in my heart. Excellent video, would love to see more on black butler! 🖤 Edit: season 2 was very confusing to me mostly because Lau had returned. But then I heard the small slip in line "thank you for letting me slip away" spoken by Lau when Sebastian requests that he go along with Ciel's altered memory. I was very glad Lau was still alive

Lau is such an interesting character, and he is still alive in the manga as well. I'm not sure if you've read more of the manga online, but a lot of season 1 is anime only story lines! It's very cool that you found the Undertaker funko pop for a good price online! I'm more into collecting Nendoroids, and the after market price for them gets wild. It would be really cool to collect Black Butler figures, I just recently got into figure collecting, so most of my collection is Demon Slayer and Jojo's. Good luck collecting more of the manga! Sometimes you can find really good deals on used manga on amazon or other websites. You could also find places to read for free online, which I think is fine since you're also making an effort to purchase the volumes when you can.

Haha I have my doubts about a new season as well but I just often think that since they went out of their way to adapt book of circus, Murder and Atlantic, they’ll eventually need to adapt the rest, right? It’s only a matter of time after all! It would also be pretty cool if season 1 got an anime reboot since it /was/ made in 2008. Maybe they could add some earlier manga chapters that weren’t adapted. I think it may be possible to see new anime adaptations once the manga reaches it's end. I feel like often times when a series does end, there's a boost of hype as people talk about the ending, and people who used to be interested come back to finish the story. That's my best guess.

I haven’t been in the fandom for long but I would say a lot of the dust has settled with the pro/anti wars on tumblr, we kinda just stay on our own sides and don’t bother each other (I’m on the anti sebaciel side for the record) but yeah at least where I’m at it’s a pretty good time, very unserious, pretty chill

Also I feel like as adults people are just a lot more critical of the more problematic aspects of Toboso’s work in general. Like I feel like loli-con/shota-con was a lot more accepted a few years ago, and now people are starting to criticize it and be grossed out with just how common it is within the anime and manga industry. I only got into black butler recently as an adult and I was pretty taken aback by the fan service, like it’s definitely something that hinders my enjoyment of the series, and I think a lot of people feel that way nowadays. Which is why a lot of adults don’t rlly want to get into it unless they have nostalgia for it, like I can’t rlly recommend it to anyone unless they’re already familiar with what it’s like, and I feel like that’s hindering it finding new fans. The series has a pretty bad reputation for a pretty good reason is what I’m trying to say. But idk I’m a new fan so who knows…

I started watching Black Butler when I was around 13, so the shota-con aspects of the series and the sebaciel bait moments have been very horrifying as I've gotten older. I remember when I was 17/18 and started cosplaying, I started with this series. And after cosplaying Alois one time, my mom was asking me a bit about the character and why I was dressed the way I was. And she gently pointed out that this series was sexualizing children. At least with some design aspects and the little bit she knew from me talking about it. And I'll be honest, at the time I didn't realize she was right. It was so normalized, and I had grown up with that kind of thing in anime, so I rationalized it to her. But what she said did stick with me, and it got me thinking. I've also noticed a lot of new fans to the series seem to be pretty young still. No new adults, and the ones that are here describe it as a hostage situation (a joke I've seen on tumblr and honestly mood) I'm glad you're in a nice quiet corner of fandom! Things have definitely calmed down in recent years, which is so nice. Especially now that I've blacklisted the shipping tagson tumblr ahdfsfags

Even when my 11-13 year old self watched black butler, I was uncomfortable with those scenes but brushed them off as just weird things since they weren't super common throughout the manga and show (compared to most mainstream animes at the time). But now, its just plain uncomfortable to see that happen, and thankfully, there is more discourse around it when people actually discussing how certain scenes with Ciel come off as sexualizing him instead of presenting it with the serious tones needed or it being played off as a joke. I think Yana has gotten a bit better about it too, but I am not fully through the series yet.

Oh for sure! I'd say recently, people have done a better job staying in their lane on tumblr, but the youtube fandom is still very loud and proud for some of the more questionable aspects. I'm not too sure about other platforms though. But I imagine it's more of the same mixed bag.

Last year I started with my sister to watch the Black Butler anime and read the manga, after finishing the anime. We liked the manga more than the first seasons of the anime, but we loved the characters of the 2nd season. I am faithful to the manga, and I look forward to the new chapters.

Who knows! I'm not sure if the new anime season will attract new fans, but I think the negative reputation this series and fandom has will keep it from blowing up. Which in turn should keep toxicity levels down. I also think that the new season has a high barrier of entry since it may be hard for people to pick up without having read the manga, or watched all the Book Of ____ adaptations. But there's no telling. Maybe the buzz will bring new folks in, and maybe people who used to be into the series will pick it back up again!

I still go back to rewatch the second musical and remember the Checkmate song (which my sister sings with me, and she never watched Black Butler) 😔👊✨ I am waiting to get some chapters updated so I can binge read ajhzidjd I'll be back once I finish watching the video to add stuff hzbdb I'm back and yes. Nostalgia is real. (This all from my experience) I think it's mostly because Black Butler became, however strange, a source of comfort. I've had it for so long that it's seen my best and worst. Sometimes the interest more dormant and sometimes, very present. But it was and is there. It also provided a quick connection with people I now call friends though that nostalgia. Through the experience of Black Butler as one of the first fandoms we had ever been in. From our young and dumb years where we thought it wasn't that weird to ship sebasciel (EW, BIG DISAPPOINTMENT FOR YOUNG US) to our dumbasses getting into university and just hoping that Our Ciel will somehow get out of this alright (mostly me, that consumes fanfics where Sebastian ends up kind of adopting Ciel and then, with the rest, they all become a big family and all ends up great). It's weird to think that it's been years... At this point, I just want to know what happens to Our Ciel and then I'd love to know where I can find the rest of the stageplays after the third one ajbdidj WOAH this is long Sorry I'm just running my mouth ajdbudbs

It's a shame that the people who previously shared the musicals online no longer feel comfortable doing so. But I get it. Piracy is real, and you want to support your favorite things. You're so valid for that. It's hard to say I left the fandom since I technically never stopped making things related to it, but I definitely took a huge step back for a few years for various reasons. The fact that SebaCiel was THE ship is honestly a bit horrifying. Everyone needs therapy or something because yikes there is no healthy reason to engage with that ship imo. Also Public School arc is my favorite arc, so I'm glad to see it get some love!

asdfasdf IT'S BEEN SO ROUGH OUT HERE! I'm really holding out hope that pacing only feels bad because of the reduced chapter lengths and long waits. When it's all said and done, and I get to reread it all with out having to wait a month for 3 pictures, maybe the actual pacing of the story will be different??? The only silver lining here is the thought that Black Butler has shortened chapters now because Yana Toboso is working with Disney on Twisted Wonderland, and it's an effort to not over work herself? I'd much rather a manga be painfully short and slow like this if that means the mangaka was taking care of themselves!

I recently got back into black butler because Bard almost dying shocked me into catching up with the manga. (If they're willing to kill Bard despite how long the servants have been in the manga, Finny might be next on the chopping block!) Honestly I think there's a mixture of things going on with that. Some, especially younger people, I think harass others due to not knowing what to do with their disgust or uncomfortable feelings around the fact that people ship it. I've also seen cases where adults were grooming minors by sharing porn of problematic ships with them under the guise of them helping make the world a better place (sending them content they need to go mass report and starting witch hunts). It's incredibly harmful for both the victim of the witch hunt, and also those involved in the hunting as well. Especially when you consider many of those who are being hunted are also children. Another reason I think people harass others over these things is because it makes them feel better about themselves. I'm going to be honest, I don't ship SebaCiel, and frankly find the ship a bit triggering and harmful. But that doesn't give me the right to actively hunt down and harass those who do ship it. There's much more peace in my life if I just block things and move on. It's so important to learn how to curate your space, and if you're going out of your way to interact with content you don't like, algorithms are only going to push more of it your way.

I think her past works get dismissed however since it's usually used to support the false rumor that Black Butler was supposed to be a yaoi series. You are right though people see what they want to see. That's basically true across the board. I'm glad you've found the corner of fandom that works best for you though!

When translated it seems like Ronald Knox ranting about "too much overtime" is just lazy. But in Japanese this word uses kanji: 残 - remainder, leftovers; and 業 - business, also a word for the Buddhist term "karma". Which feels like "unfinished work" or "unfinished deeds" or even "uncollected souls". Therefore Knok's motto "No overtime!" transforms into "Collect every soul in time!" 😊 Also, love Undertaker! 😅 To my surprise, I found some hints that he seems to have a lady of the heart 😂

The hing I don't like about black bUtler anime is how the first season animates Jack The Reaper arc and indian Butler arc and then everything after that is filler. Second seson is entirely filler. Then they animated the movies.I'm gonna be serious, It took me a good month to understand the timeline of the anime. It's basecly a mess. The worst part is that the anime was trying so hard to comfuse us that It succseeded miraculusly. I swear the anime i fun BUT NOT KNOWING WHAT'S HAPPENING FOR THE HALF OF THE SEASON ISN'T. I think they did that because there wasn't much manga to adapt when the first season was being produced. I'm pretty sure the circus arc was a WIP while the anime was airing. Idk what they were thinking with season 2, but I guess a lot of animes have done that original story line thing when they run out of manga, or deviated too far. I really don't remember anything about the plot of season 2. I don't think I've watched it since I was 14??? I'm a fake Kuro fan asdfasdfas. Honestly, I think they would have been better off just giving the anime an honest reboot, like Fruits Basket or FMAB did instead of just trying to pick up where they left off, and use a fill in the gaps with exposition dumping. I've just recently rewatched the first couple of episodes in Book of Circus with a friend, and it's so silly that they are making it accessible to those who didn't read the manga, but like just make a faithful adaptation? But I guess the studio had their reasons behind the scenes for doing what they did.

@@theriverastyx yeah it was wild in the worst ways. I was around 20 when I was recruited, so I was a bit too old for the worst of what went down. But it still greatly impacted my mental health and sense of identity, which is something I still struggle with from time to time. The older I get, the weirder that whole thing becomes in hindsight. Hoping you're doing much better now!

If a small circle of fans, who just enjoy their favorite and FICTIONAL characters together, is enough to bury a whole Fandom of the franchise, than it's actually never been fandom. Get your facts straight! I've only been into this "Fandom" for about a year ago now and I've never met a "Fandom" that is so extremely toxic due to his harassment against other fans. There are so many shippers in other Fandom, that have worse imaginations of their pairings in Mangas and Anime, but even those show far more tolerable behavior towards each other. If Yana hated the idea of Sebastciel so much, she wouldn't add even more fuel to fire and had made a clear statement already. But, against all the rumors so far, she has never stated anything except for the sebastian and grell an William and grell pairing. I know it must be very hard for you to accept, but I'm still a Sebastciel shipper and don't care about the harassment against it. The only real and hard nail in the coffin, is the harassment of people like you, who even celebrate themselves in their own video essays for it. Congratulations!

I literally don't care if people ship SebaCiel. I've been in this fandom for almost 10 years. In 2015, there was so much contention in the fandom over the ship that it did turn shippers amd non shippers away. A lot of fandoms are still just as toxic over ships these days as well. It's just how it is. I have my opinions and you have yours. Yes, I think the ship is gross and triggering due to my history with it and people I knew. I've known a lot of people who were into the ship for all the wrong reasons. So that has affected how I feel about it. You do you I guess. Did you miss the part where I was critical of "anti-shippers" as well? What do you mean people like me? Edit: I also feel the need to add that generally shippers are a lot easier to get a long with these days if you don't like the ship yourself. Around 2015, people didn't tag their posts correctly making it impossibleto avoid things you didn't want to see, many people went out looking to fight (antis and fed up proshippers alike), and up until recent years, most of the fandom did ship SebaCiel. So it was a totally different landscape back then. Glad you've found yourself a circle to vibe with now though.

I have to agree the amount of harassment people got in this fandom for shipping fictional characters was insane, disgusting and extreme in a way that should not be tolerated! And I don't get why it was a thing it was so wrong. I never seen such extreme harassment even in the worst places. People take it too far! And yes I will never forgive them for it. I hope you doing better nowadays. No matter who you ship, we are still people with feelings. I noticed that with man that ship loli girls with older man they got much more acceptad in fandoms. How fair uh? 😂

personally I don't care if people ship them together, Sebs and Ciel. Each are free to ship who they want, it a fictional story! Or did you forget it is only fiction? What I'm not okay with is harassment to real people online just cause they ship a fictional characters! There is worse man shipping loli girls with adults man and people were okay with it cause it's a girl! Again the series or the manga never show any romantic feelings with Ciel so I don't see why the need to harass others for their preference. Did you go to Ao3 and harass people cause they write a fictional story about characters they like that can look toxic to you? 😂No you not! You just move on and click away. Yeah, I agree! The harassment, especially when people go out of there way to harass people is just gross. It's not just this fandom though, I've noticed that over the more recent years, fandom in general, especially large fandoms, have these same issues. It's just an internet issue at large at this point. I'll be real, and you could probably tell by the way I spoke, that I do not like the sebaciel ship, but that doesn't give me the right to try and dictate what other people should do, and definitely doesn't give me the right to hunt them down and harass them.

@@PocketLeaves but that what besically happen in this fandom. At least when it was popular. I seen them, and they were mostly man that got "hurt" cause people ship fictional characters. Of course it happens in other fandoms too. But it was teally bad in this fandom even for the interent standard. It will sound cruel but I'm glad it's dead in a way, at least people move away from it. And I hope the people that got hurt doing better after all the harassment.

i wouldn't say i'm in the fandom anymore, but, i am waiting for the new season's first episode to be released (apparently next month iirc) but black butler holds a special place in my heart, and it always will.
