I used to give my favorites frozen chunks of almond butter. They loved it, and would always hurry to me to claim their treat. Frozen is good because it isn’t messy and won’t stick to their paws and face

I like to mix birdseed with the peanut butter i give my birds & squirrels. I can wipe a blob of it into a nock or crannie of near by tree. The birds & squirrels love it.

Awesome. I am curious as to where all these 'kids' reside? You seem to be in an urban environment. Are they just in the local trees/bushes? I am in the city but still have raccoons, opossums, stunks (my babies and that's what my son called them when he was a child 🤗) and a bunch of stray cats I take care of. Of course I can't get too close to any of my 'wards,' 🙂 But they are mine nonetheless. Feeding the local animals can be costly, I know. Also dry cat food, which I feed all the animals daily, is getting real hard to buy here (SoCal) for some reason. We had to order 66 lbs online last week as I was afraid I would run out. I feel a certain responsibility now that I have been doing this for like 6 yrs. I named a few kittens in the past but both of them didn't make it and I carry that with me so I don't name them anymore. We have quite a few squirrels here, I see them all the time, but they are at the back of the house, in the trees and on the wires, and have never ventured here to eat. i put slices of apple, carrot, sweet potato, baby corn etc dipped into peanut butter. sometimes a brazil nut too. They love mealworms as well but i hear dried ones have no nutrition in them. I am going to buy some live mealworm beetles for breeding my own. Hedgehogs and birds love them too but the dried ones mainly come from china and are not good for animals.

@@Squirrels_at_the_window yes thanks a lot. I have seen that. Maybe not careful enough. They ( the squirrels ) also warn each other of traffic? Gray squirrels are superior to European squirrels. They are bigger, stronger, more adaptable and have more offspring. What makes them even more dangerous is the squirrelpox virus, a smallpox virus to which they are immune but their red relatives are not. It is therefore tried to keep the gray squirrels away from Germany to protect the red squirrels. So far it seems to work.. best regards Guenter
