If I go out front and make the “kiss kiss” noise and then say “come get peanuts” a gray squirrel with a bent tail will come running towards me! He won’t get closer than 10 feet… This has been going on for almost 3 years now

I find it interesting that while Cutie obviously cannot comprehend the idea of the glass window, and the swishing artificial noise it makes, her wish to have a snack from her friend outweighs the weird of the window. Her friend is large, doesn't climb trees, doesn't have fur or a tail and lives in a hole behind an odd barrier. But there is Cutie coming to visit and hang out. Friendship is a wonderful thing. ❤

My dad started feeding squirrels when I was young (under 10) and they would stand on the deck railing and wait for us to open the sliding glass door for nuts. It always amazed me they didn't flinch cause that was one noisy door to open and close.

In my experience.....it takes time, patience and it really depends on the squirrel. Some will come close to you and you can tell they are more "brave" than others, where you can get them to walk up and take a nut out of your hand. Others will NEVER get close to you, no matter what.

Squirrels seem to feel safe with windows, even with cat on other side. I started with plate of seeds on patio to attract them in morning (most active), then stayed low inside by cracked sliding door and put nuts in line to me. They would “follow bread crumbs” to me for starting hand feeding. Now I feed them out of my window too.

I fed chipmunks by hand. Earlier, I fed them wildlife mix from my hand, and still remember the paws on my hand. Then, I gave them nuts. They usually filled their mouths to take it to their home. I tried peanuts, but they wouldn't take them unless I took the shells off, or used the shell as a plate. I got unshelled nuts, and they sat on the step next to me, like a human, and ate with me.

This is so sweet. I have just got my first ever squirrel to my patio in 13 years living here. She has an injured hind foot and half her tail is gone. She's so timid but so sweet. Recently, she just brought her new babies to me to source for food, and they're probably about 6-7 weeks old. There's been 3 babies so far. They hang out here and I feed them. They have plenty of food and water. I'm loving getting to know them and to help them how you help yours. 🫶🏼 Sending you love. From WA state. 🐿️🌲

I had a mother with chopped tail move to my yard early Spring after I put up a drey house. Four Kits started coming out soon after. They just play while still on mother’s milk, learning to climb tree and wrestle each other.

Thank you for sharing these lovely videos. I regularly go to my local park (Heaton Park Manchester) to feed the squirrels. I have my own peaceful spot with a bench to sit on and they are always there waiting for me to arrive. Some of them sit on the bench next to me waiting for nuts and some have learned to climb up my trouser leg to sit on my knee waiting for nuts. I absolutely adore them, and I find it very therapeutic. I was able to place a nut on my shoe, then on my knee and after this my squirrels climb all the way to my shoulder. Takes little time if using a nut. They are so filled with LIGHT

Years ago, when I was in college I went to The University Of Louisville....the squirrels on campus are known to be super tame from being fed by the students for generations....I was sitting outside one of the buildings one day between glasses.....I had a little vending machine size bag of Doritos I was eating from while sitting on a bench.....squirrel came up behind me, jumped on my shoulder, ran down my arm and took the whole bag out of my hand! Lol.

Very sweet. Tiny squirrel hands. I have noticed that when some of the squirrels I am feeding get used to me and bond with me they want to touch my hand when they take the nut. Others need me to throw the nut. I often offer a piece of fruit, a grape or berry, after they have multiple nuts. I also have given plain kefir in a jar lid. Some really like that and take the jar lid from my hand and lick it clean. I tried this once with a fiesty fellow who had a scar across one eye. His eye was good but the scar was on either side making him look like quite the character. I had given him a good share of nuts and then offered a piece of fruit. He didn't want the fruit so I offered him some kefir in a jar lid. He reached around the jar lid and bit me! Not too bad but he did draw blood. Other squirrels were coming for nuts so I fed them but would not even look at 'scareye' when he came for food. There were a lot of squirrels that day and I kept feeding them and ignoring the bitey one for about fifteen or twenty minutes. Then I offered 'scareye' a nut on a spoon. He took it. My squirrels consider it an insult if I feed them from a spoon. Three or four days later I was feeding the same group. Scareye' showed up and I fed him from my hand. I think he was relieved and I only gave him nuts after that. We're good now.

I have several squirrels that I can hand a peanut too. And a couple that prefer being hand fed over just picking up what I put out for them. But I’ve never tried petting one. I don’t think they’d let me do that. That is very sweet. 🐿️

Please know that if you have screens on your windows, they can and will chew right through them. I was feeding them as well. Screens had to be replaced because they chewed through all of them. If you feed them at a window, and the screen is at that or any nearby window, they will chew right through it before you remove it to feed them.

I had that happen to me. I replaced my screen with a stronger pet screen and haven’t had any problems last few years. Squirrels still like to climb up to eye level to get my attention.

I have squirrels at my window all day long, except during the middle of the day in summer when it's very hot outside. But they don't over eat, there are just many squirrels and they each have their preferred time to come to eat.

I’ve mentioned this before, but anyone who hasn’t read it - My husband built me a Perspex box to put at one of our open windows - so the box is in our living room if you can picture it, with an open side going out onto our deck - the panel on the living room side slides open for me to put the squirrels food in and my husband built a ramp from the deck floor up onto the open window…. The squirrels run up the ramp, into the box and take nuts or sit and have their food! ……. It’s as if they come into the living room because they come into the box which is supported inside by a camera tripod with a wooden ‘shelf’ on for the box to sit on. He even fitted a sliding bug blind above the box so even though the window is open no flies or bugs get in because the blind slides down on top of the edge of the Perspex box….. we have a motion activated camera inside so don’t miss any squirrels if we’re not in the room when they visit! We call it ‘The Nut Hut’ 😁….. I even sit at the open sliding panel sometimes and hand over the nuts to them….. I recommend it to anyone wanting to hand feed squirrels it’s the best thing ever!…… great video as always Natalia ❤
