Of course we don't. We don't even have the same 24 hours each day! Anyone who has sat a bedside vigil or been immersed in a pleasure knows the value of hours consists in how they are filled. When we are alone we have one set of hours. When we work, have children or partners, or engage in community activities that involve others, we have another. We are not islands, but part of a vibrant world that WILL knock our expectations for a loop and heavily impact our hours. Our best bet is the routines and habits that we know well enough to use as a grounding template. Thanks for your thoughtful work!

I'm chronically ill and have far fewer 'usable hours' than sometime who is well. We're definitely not all equal in this.

I don't think we all have the same 24 hours a day. Someone with a full time job, plus a family of their own, plus a caregiver for elderly family member truly does not have much time to themselves. Same goes for those with chronic illnesses.

We use a paper calendar for our family’s appointments as we are a single car family. Whoever ‘books’ the car first usually gets it and if there are conflicts we work out compromises. We live in the country and so cannot walk or bike to town. We also look at the calendar in the morning and before bed so we can plan our days. It is our ‘command center’ and works well for us.⏰

I like the batch idea and also use it for my cleaning. I used to pick one room at a time to focus on for a deep clean but you have to get a bunch of stuff out so now I batch chore. I deep clean both bathrooms at the same time, I change all the sheets the same day.If I see the light switch plate next to the garage needs cleaning I make a quick pass through the house and wipe every one.

Can attest to using alarms and setting appointments immediately on my phone as I make them. I have alarms to remind me when the kids have library books due back, when we have to pack clothes for sports activities, even for putting out the bins. These things happen every week at the same time but I free up precious brain space by outsourcing the 'remembering' to my alarms. It totally works.

I was laying out our towels, and taking off my cover up and she called out to me in front of everyone "Mimi, put down your phone, it's time to swim!" We all have 24 hours a day but they’re not all the same. Someone who is young, healthy, has a full time job and possibly a family is achieving a lot more than I do. I am older, have a chronic illness (autoimmune disease), am in a constant state of fatigue and pain and suffer with anxiety. Sadly I achieve a lot less than most people. I still have much to do but it gets done at a lot slower pace. There are so many variables that can affect our productivity and how much each and every one of us can achieve in a day.

The video is great, but it really seemed to me that a very important point was missing: The husband should share all household chores with you. Cleaning, cooking, washing, taking care of children, and so on. Then you will have time for yourself and the opportunity to deal with other habits. I would even say motivation. Because if 1 person takes care of everything, and the rest pass by, then congratulations, you are still a slave (even if slavery was abolished). And going into minimalism may not work if others do not agree. (Here I would also like to remind you that the idea of minimalism is to have enough for comfort, but not excess) It seems to me that it is important to point this out in such videos, because when a person who does not yet have children and a husband is watching, it is one thing. But when a person with a family is watching? it can become a terrible psychological loop of endless comparison of everyday life. =(
@LesaKenner6 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. Why is she doing everything by herself?
@MyFocusVaries6 ай бұрын
This is key! When I got engaged, I had a long talk with my fiance, that life would not be like it had been for him growing up (where dirty laundry magically reappeared in drawers and the closet and food appeared on the table like clockwork). We were in a conservative church at the time where even if women worked outside the home, they still did the bulk of parenting and housework. I let him know that wasn't how I was prepared to operate. When our son was young, we each took a year of leave, and during my husband's year at home, he took care of the bulk of housework and cooking because he was home more. Now that I work part time, I do more. But couples really have to work to not fall into traditional roles, particularly once they have kids (societal pressure). Because many women work a paying job, then are expected to be responsible for the bulk of home tasks on top of that, simply because it's traditional.
@DarkLord-jm8tw6 ай бұрын
@@MyFocusVaries Thank you for your reply. I am not a subscriber to yours. However, I am really interested in this whole topic of simplifying life, understanding our environment. I still have an association minimalism = asceticism. Therefore, it is important for me if the video repeats that these are not the same thing. And as a woman, it is important for me that everything is not hung on the wife. Sometimes I come across your other videos. Not everything is interesting to me, but it is always food for thought.
