this reminds me of a weed that grew everywhere where i grew up, in the Philippines. the seed container for this weed was brown & kinda hard & would explode if exposed to water, dispersing the seeds inside of it. i always liked playing with it by collecting as many of these seed containers as i could carry, find a puddle of water, throw them in & enjoy the explody fun. sometimes one of them would explode in my hand, especially if it was a bit sweaty from runnning around trying to collect these things. i never knew what that weed was called & now i'm feeling abit nostalgic for such simple times.

Seconded! Especially the efforts to bring them back. They're an interesting plant conservation topic.

The bird of paradise seed pods also explode. I see those squirting cucumber plants all over the place. It's crazy. Oh btw could you do an episode on Devils Claw aka Unicorn plant??? 🥰 It's one of my favorite plants and another member of the cucumber fam (my encyclopedia told me so)

theres was a weed that grew in my previous house, none of the ones mentioned, the long bean pods would dry out, then if you touch the dried seed pods (with enough force) makes the seedpod snap open flinging little seeds evreywhere, leaving the seed-pod slightly twisted. it was very fun

Reminds me of a weed that's kinda like what you CheesyPies described that we used to call Water bomb as if you put the dried up pod in water, They would explode. Used to pick a lot them and drop them in the drain for fun as a child. It probably is the same plant.

I can see why a plant that violently purges the contents of its fruits would be thought as an aid for constipation...

"The dynamite tree, whose completely natural explosions can be heard up to two miles away... when you slash it with a sword." "Himalayan balsam, whose seed pods explode spontaneously... when you grab and squeeze them." My shampoo also explodes spontaneously when I hit it with a blunt sword or squeeze it. They need a warning label on that stuff! Don't even get me started on tires, footballs, soccer balls, and basketballs!

I have never heard of Himalayan balsam, but the plant you show I know of as jewel weed, otherwise known as the touch-me-not. Kids love them.
