If I had yo guess it's bc cleared road = black ice. Snow was packed from cat ontop so sold less sliding slips

The state should charge a toll to help cover the cost of maintaining this awesome highway. I'd pay it!

They do its called taxes! Every time you buy a gallon of gas a portion goes to road maintenance. WA State is in the top 3 states for gas tax. We don't need a toll in addition to the high gas tax as well! Typical West Coast Mentality!

It's one of the ways we trigger avalanches.

@@Barak911777 So that it doesn't come down naturally/unexpectedly and bury cars driving by. We stop traffic/close the road, trigger the avalanche, clean it up and then release traffic. It usually takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on how much snow comes down.

@@Barak911777 Sometimes we bury explosives in the hillside and detonate them, using a pully system that drops them into the snow. Sometimes we drop explosives from a helicopter. Depends on the location and conditions.

That stretch of road is closed all winter. It is only opened up once a year in the spring.
