Battle of Britain class 34067 Tangmere hauled the Cumbrian Mountain Express from Carnforth to Carlisle and back to Farrington junction via the Settle and Carlisle line . The tour was operated by The Railway Touring Company and 34067 took over from the booked engine 46115 Scots Guardsman . 34067 is first seen slipping towards the Summit at Shap working well with 12 on the hook. The return sees 34067 near enough on time at Keld near Appelby and then at Stockber after the water stop at Appleby Station . Nice to chat to Austin and linesiders dad Peter today before and after the train past us .Slipped up at Stockber as I had the camera set on manual focus hence not as crisp as I would like plus the going away shot is not as loud as it should be as the Canon camera does not seem to like the rode mic .

Hi Steve, it's Ken here! Yea I was thinking of the exploits of 46115 flying over Shap no bother at all although it's a class 7 and I think Tangmere is 7P5F which may mean nothing at the end of the day. Still it was a great catch and one which I would have jumped at the chance to get! Thanks. Ken

Good video. Those Bulleid Pacifics are powerful engines, but a bit light in the loafers for heavy hauling. Think it's about time someone fitted some air-sanders to them, thought it would be logical now that they have a supply of compressed air available. They have proven to be so much more efficient than the old steam or gravity versions, and seem more appropriate for today's running requirements.

Great Video, a pleasure to watch. Spam cans sound like minature steam trains to me with that unique "coughing" - Excellent slippers these - still, better to slip occasionally when hauling 12 than have the indignity of a diesel nursemaid on the back of your train patronisingly "helping" whilst trying to look like one of the rolling stock. Thanks for posting.

Super film Stephen.Tangmere as volcanic as usual. I hope 34067 has a better year than last year. Apart from a short period up North she had spectacular failures at Filton and at Walmer. I could not help but see John Molzips comment. He's partially right. Actually it was Oliver Bulleid that made these engines so prone to slipping. It was encasing the chain-valve gear in an oil-bath that makes them so prone to slipping. Hence BR re-built many of them. Barry

In November 2012 Tangmere got stuck on the east-bound bank at Parkstone in Dorset hauling 11. Had to wait for a push from a diesel. It transpired that the driver's advice that 11 was too many for that engine on that bank had been ignored by the management. More fool them for a very costly mistake!

Wonderful Steve - perfect place at the summit, and there seems to be a bit of concern on the footplate. Great to see another hidden corner of the S&C too at Keld, and the going away at Stockber was a good surprise - that's some distance from camera 1! Dad enjoyed his chat with you again, and was surpised at how long it was from when I phoned to say it was coming through Greenholme. David.

What you don't hear is the driver exclaiming about that "bloody flange lubricator" and "who the f*ck puts a flange lubricator on a gradient?" 😂 Great work Steve, saw Tangmere's boiler outside the workshop on my visit to Carnforth a few weeks ago so hopefully that means she will return to the rails soon

Superb footage of Tangmere in our neck of the woods and very well filmed. In view of the slipping I wonder if 12 on was a wee bit ambitious for her? However in deputising for 46115, she would have to take the booked load anyway I suppose. Great recovery skills from the driver at Shap and your footage at Stockber with skilful use of the telephoto effect creating the corridor effect with the trees more than makes up for the focus problem. Loved it. Ken

There should be a WC/BOB in every town in Britain as they saved about 20 out of the 108 or so not to mention all of the bigger MN's saved & yet not a single Patriot preserved.....boo hoo,,,,not that I myself did anything about it at the time as I'd moved on to dance halls & pubs by then ..........but I'm not worried as a new one is being made as I write ...... Usual high standard! Shame that the Battle of Britain class were built before the invention of velcro! Seriously, they must have been great to drive when new from the workshops but a nightmare to drive once oil had started to leak out of the chain gear and onto the wheels/rails. Perhaps for 34067 they can convert half the support coach into a resevoir for sand???? …☁☁☁⁘⁙☁☁⁙..☁……Hᴜɢʜ….TU…..ツ
