Ive spoken with Jaret Reddick of BFS about this. This song was originally a SR-71 song. Jarret was friends with the vocalist of SR-71 and he told Jarret this sounds more like a BFS song, so he gave them the song to make it their own. Jaret said that he did not want the "The rubber broke" line in it and so they changed up the song and made it their own. technically BFS didnt cover it as SR-71 gave them the rights to use it and record it and have it as their song

Nah sr-71 just rode trends. Their second album hilariously tried to sound like Linkin Park, then when that didn’t work they went to this sound. Mitch is a decent pop song composer, it’s why he currently writes a lot of Disney starlets’ songs, but SR-71 was never a good band.

The lyrics are deeper here; it is obviously about a woman who wishes it was still 1985 because it was before she had kids and she wishes she could have it all back, but she can't. I think I prefer this version overall. Maybe it's just burnout after hearing the cover so much, but there's something about the vocals and music in this version that I really like. One thing I can definitively say is better in this version is the lyrics. They tell more of the protagonist's story, whereas the cover seems to focus more on just referencing 80s pop culture. A lot of the lyrics in this version fit the rhythm and rhyme better than their cover counterparts (eg. "Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink/Fast Times at Ridgemont High" vs. "Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink/Even St. Elmo's Fire").

Honestly. I don’t know why so many people hate on the original. It’s my favorite version. Both are great! But this is personally my favorite.

I do like the BFS version, but I like the original more

Same, the problem is I get mixed up with the lyrics. For instance I say "Fast Times at St. Elmo's Fire"

Thoughts on the two songs, because I just found out about this version. BFS has the better bassline. One of my favorite parts of the songs. SR71 dominates with their second verse lyrics, they just make more sense. BFS has the better outro. Not a fan of how repetitive SR71 was with it.

Lol, I have been saying this for years. SR-71 one of my favourite bands. other great songs by them... All American... Mosquito... Hello Hello... so many more. Also take a look at the hidden track on the she was dead (demo) Ironically I was born in 1985
