I’ve been wanting to do this for years on my 87 pickup. Just now looking into it…never realized how easy it would be. Thanks for sharing!

Just so everyone knows you can’t do this swap and just run the truck right after. You have to get the oil pressure sender from the SR5 trim truck 1985-1992, DLX oil pressure sender will fry the oil gauge on the new cluster ... too high of a voltage. It’s about 25$ for an aftermarket one or find one at the yard for cheaper.

I wish i would of known this.... Fried mine today.

Where can i buy them. I recently snatched a sr5 instrument cluster for my dlx and I’m planning to do a swap
@Raevenswood Жыл бұрын
@@Random_Car_Guy I bought one from autozone. The duralast branded box was actually the OEM Sankai part inside. It may be a rebuilt part with the original housing but it works fine. You’ll also need the pigtail adapter for the sr5 oil sender wire … might have to track that down on forums or the junkyard if you harness doesn’t already have it. The plastic has a U shaped cutout that allows the connector to slide over the circular brass nub on the end of the sender. The spade connection on the sender is not the correct connection.

@@Raevenswood Thanks for replying im suprised that a comment from 4 yrs ago replied to me. Thanks for the tips. Do i need more parts or its all the necessary part for the swap.
@Raevenswood Жыл бұрын
@@Random_Car_Guy the cluster, the oil sender unit from the SR5 (22re) and the pig tail for the harness is all you need. The sender is on the passenger side of the block Next to the knock sensor

Interesting, I did the cluster swap in my 88 4Runner tonight without adding the wire. Tach works but it seems to read low. And the oil pressure gauge reads high key on and drops when running 🤷

Ok, excuse my ignorance. I have an 88 pickup with the 22re. What year (s) cluster am I supposed to use to do the swap? Thanks for your help.

So just plug and play with a sending unit change?? NO wiring changes at the harness with going from a DLX cluster to a full gauge cluster? Is it really that easy

Could you do the temp, oil and volt gauges? I want everything to work.
@dukeoffroad15668 жыл бұрын
I'm hoping to do those on someone else's vehicle at some point but not mine. the stock ones are not entirely reliable or accurate all the time so I'm just gunna keep using my aftermarket ones for those purposes. I only wanted the tach.

I can do the same swap onnmy 95 tacoma dlx ?? Any 4runner cluster 1994-1996 can do the job ?
@dukeoffroad15667 жыл бұрын
Tacoma, I'm not sure on 3rd gen 4Runner interchangeability with Tacoma but 4Runners went 2nd 90-95.5 then 3rd 96+ so if 3rd gen does swap you will want 96+, not pre 95.
@dukeoffroad15667 жыл бұрын
But, just incase u actually have a pickup, not a Tacoma, 89-95 pickup clusters exchange. Early 3rd gen pickup was cable speedo vs late was electric so sometimes the unit on the other end must be swapped to make em cooperate. 90-95.5 2nd gen 4Runner clusters are the same also.
@VictorGomez-vv5hm7 жыл бұрын
Mina its cable speedo. And its a 1995.5 tacoma dlx allready take to scrapyard cluster of 95 4runner. So how i make work battery. And oil gauge.

battery should work when u plug it in but oil idk, i havent done that. only wanted the tach for mine.
