Sram Red 10 speed groupset. Worth buying a used one? Buyers guide.

Do not use 2010 Red derailleurs. The rear ones break at the pivot (have broken 2). The titanium cage on the front derailleur will wear through. The brakes, crankset and shifters are OK. The OG1090 cassette is very noisy.

these days used sram red is going about the same price as new :S Problem is its very very difficult to find this old sram red 10 speed, and the newer one with Yaw apparently has issues if you aren't using Full sram red including cranks (which are shite) and even if you are depending on the frame it can have problems shifting, so I guess its better to go with sram red 11 speed now.

I have a sram force 10 speed force on my old road bike. After buying a new right hand shifter about 4 years ago, new front and rear derailleur in the last 2 years. I still have left hand had shifter that doesn't return all the way back to the home home position. So I have to push it back. Otherwise it still works. A new one will be expensive. Shimano shifters are much cheaper to replace, if replaced with Tiagra. I would not recommend to anyone to buy a old Sram groupset. They are very good when they are like new but parts are very expensive.

Sram Rival is Ak-47 tought as nails! Red must be royal smooth and tank proof after all Contador and others love it and climbed many pro caliber podiums! 10 speeds are plenty and sturdier unless bragging rights are called for!

I think it's worth to mix in Force or Rival level 11 speed Front Derailleur and left shifter just for Yaw derailleur alone.

The 11speed Yaw FD works great with the old 10 speed groups. In fact it works much better than the FDs that are build for the 10 speed groups. You can get a 11speed Yaw Force FD for around 50 bucks. +CyclingSam yes. I have been using the Red 11 yaw front, and also the Red 11 WiFli rear derailleur. Hardly notice the difference in the rear vs Rival. But the Yaw Fr der is a massive improvement.

does it use less force to shift too? or is it just shift better. i tried a friend's force 10 speed and does not like the amount of force to push the left lever to shift. Not sure if the yaw one improved.

The Force Yaw is much lighter to shift. I currently have a road and a cross bike. My road has the Force Yaw and my cross has 10 speed Rival. There is a noticeable difference between the Force Yaw and the 10 speed Rival.

What's your take on PC1130 cassette and chains vs PC1170 cassette and chains? Personally, I think the PC1130 is worth the money savings. How many more km do you gain with the life of 1170 over 1130?

Given the same price what would you choose, a used 11s SRAM red mechanical (prestine condition), or upgrade kit for shimano DI2 ultegra( brandnew)

Nobody needs 11 speed, nobody needs new either just well conditioned springs and ratchets in derailleurs and shifters, we only need new rings, new chain, new cassette and new cables.
