I have both too. SRAM just seems stiffer, more energy transferred to motion and (in my opinion) shifts much better.

@@Johns-w4s Your singular experience doesn't tell the whole story. Ask any bike mechanic if their broken parts bin is full of Shimano or SRAM. You'll be shocked by their response. The general consensus is that Shimano stuff is much more reliable, requires less fiddling, less maintenance and is cheaper. We're talking about Japanese vs German engineering here and there's really no comparison. German engineering is a joke, just like in the automotive industry. Pretty much anything below X01 is not even worth talking about and even then, you can get the same level of performance for much cheaper with Deore XT, so...

in my opinion: Shimano is reliable, durable, less maintenance and lower cost even at the XTR level much like a Toyota or Lexus, and SRAM is trendy, flashy tech, more maintenance, less reliable and higher cost much like BMW or Tesla. Once I switch to Shimano never went back. Both Tom Pidcock and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot have many UIC podiums and Olympic gold medal using Shimano XTR.

I've honestly found the opposite to be true....had zero issue or maintenance with my Sram and nothing but trouble with shimano. The only real perk I ever got from shimano was a smoother drivetrain....

Shimano has no 1X12 electronic MTB or gravel group set. SRAM is crushing Shimano now. Too bad.

They do actually! Our Polygon N8XE features one of those groups - Shimano XT Di2.

but why would your average rider care about that? Electronic group sets are so out of reach for the vast majority of people it's pretty much irrelevant.
