Regarding keeping your heels on the floor and raising your feet to press the brakes … I learned this the hard way as a new aircraft owner last year, when we had to replace one of the tires after it was shaved down on one side during a crosswind landing. Great video as always.

Great video Russ. Sweet Xwind landing! I’ve had the Thrustmaster TPRs for 5 yrs and they have served me well. They retailed a little less then and I was lucky and found a “like new” set on Amazon warehouse for under $450. The “fire hydrant” is not an issue. When they’re out of sight, you have no idea that is between the pedals. I love that the TPRs are the only pedals I’ve seen that actually look and feel like the pedals that spent thousands of hours under our feet! Keep up the great work!

A great review, employing your usual logical and realistic requirements. For a start you have looked at virtually every option to arrive at your decision whereas a lot of reviewers have only every had or looked into one device and are therefore biased. I have a set of MFG Crosswinds with a damper and universal combat pedals. These provide excellent heel-on-ground comfort (which I use mainly for helicopter flying) and the ability to virtually eliminate a centre detent. From what I can see, these are comparable in virtually every way to your WinWings and it sounds like you are going to be every bit as happy as I have been. Always great to see a real pilot flying a circuit. It is something fundemental that is lacking from most other KZbin content, and what makes you uniquely authorititive.

I just dropped the coins for the Thrustmaster TPR pedals. I use my sim for flight training, the TFRP pedals I was using have noticable creep. While I hated paying the price, I have to admit, the TPR peddals are in a completely different league! I thought about the WinWings, but the thought of having to send them back to China for a return or repair deterred me more than the price of the TPRs. With shipping, the cost difference wasn't all that much.

I wanted to add Charlies to my Alpha & Bravo but just didn't feel like their was hope of them coming out anytime soon (this was back when they were first announced and then it didn't seem like production was progressing). The recent information coming out of the two parties makes anything Honeycomb very confusing now. I went with Virpil rudders pedals and glad I did. Not cheap (and had to wait a while) but well worth the price. WinWIng seems like they are really going all in on the commercial flight sim world (I know they like Virpil have plenty of military sim hardware offerings).

Russ, the turtle beach rudder pedals work as you wanted. They have two different combinations in the pack, for airliners as you showed in the video, but also you can change out the pedals so they are more like the winwing for GA aircraft. The price you paid for shipping for the winwing pedals was because you chose the global shipping option. You have quick delivery, but if you had picked the USA option then shipping would be free, the difference being the waiting time. I pre-order the EFIS form the UK, and it says 45 days, that includes shipping and duty, if I had picked global shipping then about 8 days, but it does not include shipping and duty. For us in the UK the duty is a killer as you can only import goods to the value of £130 or less with getting hit by huge import duty, if is above £130

I replaced a set of Virpil Ace Combat pedals with these from Winwing since the rest of my setup is Winwing. My only gripe is for soem reason no matter how I calibrate, they are difficult to use during takeoff. ive played with the settings but they seem to track slightly differrent, but otherwise theyre amazing. I lock them into tank mode to control the leg movement in mechwarrior5 and the flight stick for the torso and its also pretty good.

As always - a great review. Still I would greatly appreciate if you would have not only briefly pointed out the existing pedal options of the Milan Flight Gear Crosswind rudder pedals (i.e. allowing to have your heels in the correct position) as they also have an advanced damper option to be built in - all at a quite reasonable pricetag as well (approx. 300 Euros plus another 46 Euros for the damper). IMO they are quite sturdy working fine.

@@rbarlow Ah, I was just coming here to say the same thing. I bought the TB pedals to replace my old CH pedals, which gave me 20 years of good service. One of the things I really like about the TB pedals is being able to put them into GA mode and keep my heels on the ground. I've fly exclusively in GA so haven't tried the "airliner" configuration. *I* wouldn't consider them a "budget" option at $300 (I got them on sale at $270), but I guess relative to the Ruddo's and the TPRs maybe they qualify! On the VR subject, I will say I own every single one of the high priced headsets, in fact I own nearly every VR HMD made since the Oculus DK1 and you know what I fly with 99% of the time? Yep, the Quest 3 over Virtual Desktop. It is just such a perfect sweet spot of comfort, quality, and ease of use. Russ is 100% right. You don't need to spend a ton of money on a high end HMD. A Q3 will do you fine. That said, if you don't have the BEEFY system to back it up you will not have a good VR experience, so I think overall VR is still a pricy route for some.

If you don't have a strong machine then you need to dial things down, but no one ever wants to do that so they try to keep everything near max and suffer the bad performance, then claim VR sucks and makes them feel bad. Personally I'm running a AMD 7950X3D with an RTX 4090 and 128gb of ram which is pretty darned high end, and even then I just sit barely at the acceptable framerate with everything set to max or near max quality. Russ do you also operate the helicopter? In that case, does any of those pedals work? They shouldn't have a spring to center them, should they?
@rbarlow
@rbarlow 3 ай бұрын
The spring can be removed if no centering is desired. The damper can still work even without the spring centering.
@ShanePKing
@ShanePKing 3 ай бұрын
These are great for helicopters, but you need to make sure you add the damper when ordering, because the pedals are too loose without the return spring if you don’t have the damper.

I have both the Virpil ACE interceptor , and Winwing sky walkers, hands down Virpil is way better. been flight simming a bit between my airline job, these pedals fell nothing like the real thing. They are just that sim pedals. I got the pedals when they first came out and shipping was no where close to 160 to the US. I would never pay that for shipping , ever..

@@jebb125 never have tried any Virpil products but most comments about them are very positive. They may be better but I don’t agree the Winwing Orion pedals feel nothing like the real thing. Of course I don’t know what “real thing” aircraft you are comparing them to. As for the shipping charge see my sequel video WinWing FREE SHIPPING.....I'm an idiot kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoSwc3SfiNusaJI Thanks for your input. I will try to check out the Virpil rudder pedals based on your recommendation.

You don't have to use the extensions on the Saitek pedals. I use the pedals without those "cups" and they work (in that way) just fine. THAT being said, like their yoke, they don't move smoothly because they move in small jerky, quantum segments instead linearly. Braking I find I have to modulate the brakes but I make it work- just makes me a more adaptable pilot right?! None the less, this is just a bad design and for that reason is why I am looking for better pedals. Professional pilot myself; and I started with the Saiteks- they are "good enough" but what I really dislike is the angle of them- NO Pedal in any airplane I have ever flown are low angled like that- they're all much more upright like the WinWing pedals. I have the stick and throttle for the F-16 from WinWing and must say, I AM IMPRESSED with their products! Good balance between feel, quality, and value.

So why don't you design and build an American made rudder pedal system that would be the closest to a real world rudder pedal? Clearly what's offered sucks and I'm tired of buying Chinese products when we can make these things ourselves. Maybe get a Patreon going and let people invest in the endeavor because I'm sure there are plenty of Sim Pilots that would buy into a project like this. Just sayin is all :)

Thank you for enriching a communist country by purchasing these. The Thrustmaster TPR's are expensive, but oh boy, you definitely get what you pay for! Pro tip: If you place the TPR's on a carpeted floor, you will find that they slip all over the place. One solution I found was to attach the hook portion of Velcro to the bottom of the TPR's. Make sure you get their placement right the first time, since it can be difficult to reposition.

I have a feeling if you did an inventory of everything you own a large percentage is made in China. RealSimGear, Honeycomb, Thrustmaster, ect are also largely sourced from China. I agree made in the USA would be nice in a perfect world.
