He's absolutely right, discipline without morals is useless.it turns into " my father or mother is just beating me because of how they felt" who knows what they are going to feel the next day or second. You have to have diacipline with morals. The child needs to be told why what they did is wrong and why its important to follow morals....and the father has to live out those morals in his own life.
