Lion Rock is one of the most iconic landmarks in Sri Lanka... BUT is worth visiting?
Subscribe goo.gl/Y8ZVar
Today we are in Sigiriya in the heart of Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle. Sigiriya is home to one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks Lion Rock. It’s also home to the lesser know Pidurangala Rock which offers stunning panoramic views over the entire valley of Sigiriya and Lion Rock itself.
Most travellers who visit Sigiriya choose to visit one or the other. So in todays video we are going to be climbing both Lion Rock and Pidurangala Rock to break down the pro’s and con’s of visiting each and to help you decide which one you should visit.

I think the 30 dollars is worth it given; 1) the spectacular views 2) the ancient heritage 3) the complexity of the entire complex 4) the sheer amount it takes for the archaeology department to maintain it I guess its a win-win , tourists get to see and understand something so unique and so native to a particular country , something that is very complex and was obviously ahead of its time in many ways . And the locals get to preserve something that is very dear to them.

More than the views Sigiriya is architecture. How did the King get water on top (200 metres) to fill his swimming pool? You forgot to mention the frescoes.

This was Ravana's empire. Vishwakarma a civil engineer at that time planned and gifted Ravana around 5000years ago. Ravana captures seetha who is Rama's wife from India bcz of her beauty. One day Rama defeated Ravana in a war to get seetha. That time this empire came down. If u read Hindu ethics Ramayana, will get to know everything.

What I experienced on my first visit to Sigiriya is that it's simply breathtaking. I used to live in down south and visited on a school trip. It was not dry season when it was too hot, and definitely should visit early. The water fountains still work sprinkling water in those welcoming green lawns. There's lot of history and it is regarded as the 8th wonder in the world, as the technology they had thousands years ago still make modern engineers amaze and some water sprinklers are still functioning to this date. The fortress had many layers of protection with water, crocodiles and layers of walls. It's a complex building which one cannot rush through without a full day atleast. Great video guys!

Few interesting things to see: *If you investigate carefully you can see something called Ravana rocks around sigiriya *Also you might notice some rock traps on the sigiriya as defense machanism * some markings on the up to the rock. Some books mentioned there was an elevator to go up down. Some believe those parallel markings are left of that machanisms. *There are lot of secrets around. Anyway hope you guys safe travel.

Those carved steps in to the rock are actually not the steps that used to climb rock by foot. Those are threads used by wheels to roll up and down. There are some proofs about an ancient Elevater that King used to climb the rock.

I don't think king use steps to go around the rock especially with the beautiful woman that he has :-)). if we think only about a big swimming pool at the top of the mountain. we don't know how they scooped out tons of rock to make that swimming pool and connect it with the waterline.
