Somato Respiratory Integration Exercise Stage 1 - “Suffering”

Separateness/Connection
The origins of SRI stem from Donald Epstein’s book The 12 Stages of Healing. These exercises (in conjunction with Network Care/Chiropractic care) are designed to help the brain reconnect with the body and it’s experience. Each stage is associated with unique movements, breathing patterns, and verbal affirmations ultimately contributing to a deeper sense of wholeness.

Hi! Is it helpful to hold your hands over an area of your body that is painful? If you aren't feeling any areas of discomfort or suffering, should you still state the declarations from the book?

Hi Sarah! You can use any part of your body in this exercise that you'd like to cultivate a deeper relationship with. It doesn't have to involve pain!

It seems each practitioner has different instructions for part one! What about the other two areas described in the book (12stages)? You are only looking at 1. Bit confused. Thanks.

You can focus on any area or position of the body with this. This is just an example

Do you place your hands on the tension? Such as your head or arm? Or is it always on one of those three the chest? Belly or lower belly?

If you're new at this work, start with one of those positions to practice. Once you get better, you can go to where the tension exists.

Do You do pressure against Belly and Co to notice that the space expence?

Enough pressure to feel the tissue but not so much to force things.

If i breath Out the noise. Do i increase the space of safty in my Body?

Breathing out through the nose activates more transform energy (see stage 4). This stage is all about finding safety and stability within the bodymind. So the breath pattern nose-mouth is key for this within the nerve system. Great questions!

Do you recommend declarations such as "sometimes I feel so unworthy" while doing Stage 1?

Hi Seth! Yes, there are specific affirmations that go with Stage 1. Anything that helps connect to the suffering, pain, discomfort, etc and acknowledging it without trying to fix it.

You can also say ; +Sometimes I feel like I don't fit in +Sometimes I feel like I am not enough +Sometimes I feel like this will never end You say this as you inhale or exhale, whatever that feels uncomfortable for you Connect to your suffering, to heal you must feel it

Practice. The more you practice, the more you'll get a sense of what works for your bodymind.

@@NewAmor1990 We call it "exercising your expression." You will connect to deeper layers as you practice which can sometimes feel new, unstable, etc. Breath is important to help with stability in this.
