Parasuram Sir: What a feast! It is a cliche that music is an ocean. When I heard your Lec-Dem of 2 hours, I felt you were expounding and making people understand the true meaning of that cliche with example after example, not just about Tillana. Being adept in both Hindustani and Carnatic, you painted the expansive ocean with waves as well as gave a glimpse of its depth. You took me under the iceberg!

If all this stuff about Persian influence on Hindustani music is true, why then is Persian music itself so awful?

If you genuinely want to know the answer, you should study about it, not post a snarky comment here. FYI Venkatamakhi of 72 mela fame curses Kalyani raga, calling it Turushkas' favourite and unfit for composition (in his Chaturdandi-prakashika)! You would probably not recognise nor enjoy the music as described in the Natyashastra or even Sharangadeva. History is complex, and Persian influence is true - whether you enjoy today's form of Persian music or not.
