I would disagree. The first 5 years, kids are way too impressionable. Yes, it is important to have consequences like no TV or play time etc. when they do something terribly wrong, but the love should still be shown. That's how they'll know they're still loved but what they did is not right. Denying them love when they do mistakes is scientifically known to leave an undesirable impact on their emotional / psychological development.

The reason why today's generation doesn't want kids is by naturally and subconsciously they know the Population problem. It's the Natures way of rewiring our brain in that direction . Also having a partner settling down is not easy. There is Cost of living crisis. Having kids and not being able to raise them , not being able to provide their needs is the biggest paranoia

Overpopulation is actually a political myth. The statistics actually predict population decrease in the future. For some time people have been having less and less children. Financial pressure as you mentioned however is a huge part of this
