I've been enjoying your videos. I'm 67 and sold my 1982 CB900SF a couple of years ago and just have to get back on a bike again and off the sofa. After researching many many bikes I realized the little V-Star would be just fine for me now. Although the tunnel vision I got when I cracked the throttle on my SF will be missed. Changing my shorts won't be though. PS: About the semi. It's like being married, it's always our fault, even though it really isn't, because we're the ones that bounce down the highway. 3 bike related surgeries later....

I always find it funny when people are like the V Star 650 is a tiny bike, and some are like "idk if I would feel comfortable on the highway with it". When their are people who ride 250's on the highway like the V Star 250. And there are sport bikes 600's that leave Harley's in the dust. The V Star 650 is no sport bike, but it has plenty of power and bike for literally anything you could want to do on a cruiser bike.

I learned to ride on one of those and loved the heck out of it. It had an extremely comfy seat and you sit low so its easy to hold up and was very forgiving. If you did something stupid it was like the bike said "Alright stupid Ill save you again..." lol. It was also great on creature comforts- self canceling turn signals, that seat, awesome headlight best I ever had on a bike, loud horn, and everything was just where you expected it to be and also very reliable. I finally out grew it just became boring and I had a shot at a vmax 1200 which was my dream bike (was talked out of one for my first bike by my cousin, thank God lol probably wouldn't be here if he hadn't ) so I took it lol but I do sometimes miss that vtwin rumble these sound and look much bigger than they actually are.

Ian Callahan Sorry I just saw this. I agree with Sean they are great on the highway. It got great fuel mileage too. My only complaints- I always felt like it needed an overdrive gear. It has plenty of power. It took a little while (for a bike) but I had got it up at and maybe a touch above 100 mph before. Maybe 110 is probably about all it has though. But it always felt like it was revving kind of high when just cruising. Although, even though it sounds big it is a smaller engine, so that makes sense really. Also the clutch was kind of funny in the way it engages in my opinion. No matter how you adjusted it, it always caught at the last second it seemed like. But I never had an issue out of it, or really anything else at all on it for that matter. Probably the only vehicle I've ever owned I could say that about haha. I really liked it, but a chance at my somewhat hard to find dream bike popped up and I had to trade her to get it. I wish I still had it sometimes. Would totally recommend it.

I’m thinking either this, a Harley-Davidson Street 500/750 or an Indian Scout 60 for my first motorcycle. I don’t really want something with a big, powerful motor on it mainly since I got my Motorcycle license less than a month ago. My ride coach also recommended that something with at least 500cc for anyone over 200 pounds. I’ve sat on each one at dealerships and they all felt pretty like they were good fits for me.

We've just bought one of these (in the UK) - it had been left standing outside for three years, and so we got it for a bargain price. It's been stripped and had some customisation and is almost ready to go. I'm surprised to hear so many of the reviewers call it a starter bike. Here we have to start on a 125 cc and then pass a bike test. Do you all mean compared to a bigger engine size?

Those pipes are not factory on that bike. I have the same bike I bought new in 2005. Within a year I put Vance & Hines on mine. I saved the old ones and had to get a "Jet Kit" for the carb. I also put in a K & N high flow air filter. The new pipes give it a little more snap and it sounds great once you start up from a stop and romp on it. But once you get going down the road at highway speeds, the sound is not all that loud. I have Harley's pass me and their bike drowns mine out. When the engine is cold, I can get a nice back-fire out of it when I down shift. Not sure if the back-fire is hurting anything, but the Bang! Bang! sounds cool.

Latia - Hi. If I may ask, does this bike vibrate very much? The boy in the video does not afford the viewer adequate information. (I think he just likes to hear his own voice)....!

the boy in the video is a man, and my job is to talk while i ride. thanks for watching. and no the bike does not vibrate very much. more than a inline 4 and less than most domestic v twins.

LOL, sure you are...! If you state that you are a man often enough ____... Like most people on youtube you talk a great deal and say very little. In relation to motorcycles if you do not speak on HP, torque, top end, handling, pertinent shit, you are not giving a good review. Your videos are not all bad. They are just often lacking pertinent information. If you can't deal with constructive criticism - you are not a man. If you can't deal with this type of comment that states some truths get your videos off the Internet.

Im on a 650 Vstar and have no complaints w/e of when it hits 100 kms/hr, it vibrates really bad. I had the wheels balanced. Is that an expected thing for V-twins.

since Shawn never replied to you I will. LOL The Vstar 650 does vibe a bit over 100 kms/hr. But, a Harley Sportster vibrates at ANY speed. I some fussing about the vibrations, HEY! Its a "big" 'ol cruiser! If you want silky smooooooooth, buy a Honda ST1300 ;-)

Just stumbled upon your videos and have to say I like your reviews. I'm looking at getting my first cruiser bike and likely going to pickup a Shadow 750 Aero (2006 with only 4400 miles for $2100 from a friend) and it's going to be just a daily rider. I've been riding sport bikes; FZ-07 was my first bike and now I ride a K9 GSX-R 750 so I don't need speed just something comfortable to put around on. How does the Yamaha 650 compare to a Shadow 750 as far as power/acceleration? If they are close then yes the Yamaha will also be close with an 883, because when I test rode the Shadow I raced my buddy on his 883 Sportster and it was dead even untill about 60 MPH and he pulled about 1-2 bike lengths ahead of me from 60-85 MPH where we had to let off. It was very close though and the 883 did come out ahead but not by much.

Very few differences. One thing is that some people thought the original pipes were too quiet. Around 05 the mufflers were changed slightly, for a deeper tone. Also fuel warmers in the carbs. A check eng. light. Not much else anyone could notice.
