Well I just don't fit in, I put 49,000 k on my 883 the first season and got it late in the riding season. But we can't all ways ride what we like, hitting 70 had to trade my 650 Dr in for a C 50 just could get my late up and over it . but lucky I have not fond a bike I do not like. Would love a Ural but no dealers on the east cost of Canada.

Fantastic review - honest (they really aren't very fast and scrape constantly), but also clarifies the spirit of the Sportster. Great for beginners, very forgiving, a reliable bike to learn on while modifying it to make it your own, and most riders can flat-foot comfortably. I'm about 110 lbs, 5'4", and have the 2016 for city driving bc it's lanky but well balanced and very agile. Sometimes it goes out motocamping in the country. Gets a bit squirrelly on gravel, but Rusty Butcher has shown us what the Sporty can do off-road if you have the time to put into the bike.

For the record, I am a sport bike guy, but I was working at a Harley-Davidson dealership. The demo truck rolled in and I ask my boss, since I didn't have a lot of experience with the brand if I could take a bike out. He said i could ride as many as i wanted (I didn't know i was getting let go the next day!) I rode Sportsters, Street Glides, Softtails and more. The impression I came away with was the Sport Bikes and Harley's are apples and oranges. Yes they are motorcycles but the experience couldn't be more different. The Harley's were relaxed, muscular and amazing. I get it. There is something about riding a big Harley that you smile in your helmet and think heck yeah look at us!

Srk, 883 Sportster, Triumph Bonnie [and other smaller displacement bikes] are more fun here in So. Jersey than a Sportsbike. Our country roads, flat terrain don't require a high HP 160 mile an hour bike, overkill. Heavy cruisers, touring bikes out of their element, in my opinion. HAVE FUN ON A LIGHTER BIKE. 'I'd rather ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow". Thanks for your vid's.

I’d be curious to know what a sport bike rider would think of the older more sporty sportsters, 100lb less weight, less twisty frame due to a rigid mounted engine and better lean angles. They really morphed into hogs post 2004 with rubber mount frames. My old 2003 hugger feels much sportier than a newer Sportster.

The stock pipes and fuel mapping literally strangle the engine. Put on a good air intake, slip on exhaust and a V&H Fuelpak, and you gain (they say) 10% hp and torque. But it feels like more, and the throttle response is so much better. It pains me to see him review it like that, lol.

What is great w a Sporty. . . so many ways to customize it. I have mini apes and forwards, I have ridden hours at a time on the back main roads of FL. I can stretch out and be in a good riding posture. That is important, if ur aching after a bit, ur looking to get back home. U R so right about that, I do 60 on my wide glide and its like doing 40, but fifty or sixty on a Sporty yeah that works for me.

Not something I would worry about. Warranty has you covered if you have a problem out of the gate and these bikes are known to last. I've been riding my 883 for about 8 months and it really delivers. Chances are excellent you won't have any issues with the bike. There are a lot of complaints online about everything. Every manufacture has some sort of horrific review online most of which are exaggerated. The two things you should know going in is that the clutch is a weak point and you will need to do some work on it eventually and messing with any non-Harley tune is going to void the engine warranty because the EPA sued Harley over it and made them stop honoring them.

What are the differences between the iron and my wife's 883 superlow? Hers has a bigger tank, sits lower, and has shiny paint. Is there something on that one actually made of iron?

Royal Enfield bikes have less power than that and are still great. the sportie wont break, the EVO engine is solid, but a few people just love to tar it with the same brush as the big V twins.

Brilliant video and its appropriate for the time. Unfortunately riders have been going wild slapping stuff on the product and letting their ego over rule Harley's professional expert knowledge. Every time they add another part to the bike, the ego of the rider gets bigger and bigger and really quickly those riders STOP RIDING Harley's and they start trash talkin Harley's. if that's you, then go make your own bike manufacturing company and put your money where your mouth is. People forget that its THE ENGINE which is famous, NOT the exhaust sound. All these new aftermarket pipes make NEW exhaust sounds and bike watchers are not familiar with the new sounds. Those sounds are NOT FAMOUS! Sporty can be just a color stripe across a helmet color scheme. Sporty can be just adding straight drag style bars onto a stock bike. The Harley sporty product is made of every part of the bike. But it's not compareable to other products in the world. That's too much comparison for any product. Don't play the human ranking game! Don't get persuaded by the size of the population!

I like your comments, But the problem I had with Harley 883 was you had to get a 2 up seat and that was $500+ the back rest was $250 "O" then it was another $250 for the brackets, "O" you need a Pad for it , $50 and had to order and when it came it looked like something that should of cost around $10. then I got hard bags that looked great but the cute out for the shocks you could put your fist down on each side of the shocks, cutting the amount of space in side. The bike looked great and sounded good, but had to stop and get gas every 200 K and could not even get that if riding into a head wind. I also got a tack for it witch gave out in less than 6 months I had the extended warranty and had to fight to get replaced, and prove that it was put on before I picked up the bike. But the thing that was got me was when I was buying the bike they told me that the belt would last 100,000 K and when it broke at less than 50,000 k they said I was lucky it lasted that long, some break at 20,000 k and the odd one at less than 10,000 k. I worked as a millwright and we would get the same size belts made by the same company but with different pitch for $ 80. Harley wanted $250.00 plus $ to install. I did love the bike for back road and not bad on the highway., and even 2 up was OK. and Harley road side service was no good in northern Ontario, they would leave you waiting for hours then tell you that could not find a truck to go get you. If they would put a larger tank , and back up the belt a 100% and cut the cost of the extras when you got the bike it mite make me think, because I did like the looks and the rid it has. Now I have a Suzuki C 50 T and like it, except for having to stop every 300 K for gas.

How about you take responsibility for your actions. How about you look at your public appearence too! Before you go out into public. You've bought a LIFESTYLE first! You choose to spend your time riding a bike. You need to maximise the possibility of riding everyday. But you only bought 1 bike! People who LIKE the machine buy 2. People who collect buy 3 Harley 883's of the same colour. People who ride and want to modify Harley's MUST BUY 5 or 6 bikes of the same model and the same colour. But if you want to do ALOT of modifying then you'll realise YOU NEED TO BE BUYING 9 or 10 bikes! The sportster is designed for imaginary racing style. So you can't possibly want to own the sportster if you want to take passengers. You've bought the wrong product! If a person buys 1 bike they're a CONSUMER/product destroyer. you're entitled to have NO POWER over the production process. You're an EGO MANIAC! If you want to go with a friend, you're supposed to have bought 4 sportsers 883. You're quite happy to destroy your Harley sporty image by buying just 1 machine. You destroyed your experience.

Hello. I'm 6'7. I think I'm too tall for that bike. It's a nice looking bike. Can I ask what cruiser you would recommend for a taller rider? I think I heard you mention the Vulcan 900 once in one of your videos. ( Just searched your videos, and yes in fact you do have one on the Vulcan for tall riders) Thanks! Really like both your channels. I'm in Joisey. Maybe one Saturday I'll stop by and check the bikes out. :)

Rather have a Honda Shadow. Sportsters vibrate really bad. They are not made to handle full throttle very much. They are outdated technology. What ever you do, don't get caught in traffic . They will over heat and warranty will not cover engine damage. If they over heat and lock up they will never be the same, smoke like a freight train. They also handle different with a full tank of gas.....
