I mean yeah v-twin torque is nice but any 1000cc inline 4 will cream all over a SV1000. The SV has less torque than 1000 CC inline 4’s. It’s just that it makes it all at the bottom end. If you had the same rider on a SV and any 1000cc sportbike at the drag strip the SV would lose every time

I bought myself a new naked version SV1000 here in England for my 40th in 05 for £3999 brand new pre- registered with 8 miles, put an American M4 2into1 exhaust, and power commander with custom map and got 130bhp out of her, loved a 2rd gear wheelie that you could hook 3rd and land it at over 120... and could keep up with the R1s and Gsx1000s... These engines rev well and keep pulling to 10krpm. No point taking it to 11k red line as it drops off. 6 to 9 krmp is the sweet spot from memory. Tuned to 125hp at the wheel I cut 60,000 klm on mine. It was easy to service and never had a problem, still had the original battery when I sold it. Been on Phillip Island track twice ( suspension is one of its let downs ..... but only when pushed and easily rectified anyway). Great brakes, feel and power, still impressed years later. They're as much of a weapon as your ability allows.

I'm pretty sure the TL-1000 has the same engine but with bigger exhaust valves by like 3-4mm if I remember correctly but yes I'm sure they had a different ecu tune and maps but I had a TRE modification on my 06' sv1000s which stands for timing retard elimination. It tricks the ecu into thinking the bikes in 6th gear permanently which let's you use the best map in every gear!!! Its THEE best modification possible! The bandit was a beast real wheelie machine if you wanted it to be but still gentle, sv 1000 a little twitchier due to the injection i guess faster to steer and lackning just that little in The absolute lowest revs, wich gearing solved. Great job on the memory with the GSX-F series, 1250 and 650. 650 is cheap, fast (enough) reliable fun... but the 1250 makes nearly 80lbs of torque near 3,500rpm. Truly nutty for an inline-4 that revs just fine. Incredible, the comfort they all provide. Everyone that rides my GSX650F says "Dude I could ride this for 24 hours". True or not, they all say it. Great bikes. Loads of torque. Heavy on fuel in slow moving traffic (mid 30's), but good on a run (mid fifties). I often found myself going faster than I should! They have a few inherent problems which need fixing, such as the magnets detaching themselves from the rotor, wiring connectors which corrode and burn out, and clutches which rattle and knock alarmingly, but all fixable! Mine had superbike bar conversion (S model) and was comfy enough for a long run. They sound beautiful as they go past you, but you can't hear that lovey sound from the saddle unfortunately!

Great review, however I strongly disagree with a statement that this is an intermediate bike. Maybe it has only ~120hp, but it requires much more skilled rider when compared to more powerful inline or V 4s. It pulls really hard at low RPMs, plus very strong engine breaking can block the rear wheel during agressive downshifts or even if you close the throttle too fast on a wet road. My friend has the VFR1200 and even though it has 50 hp more, I would say it is much more forgiving bike than the old SV. We have to keep in mind that it originates from the famous widow maker, the TL1000 S and R.

Remember the Honda GLI 500 you tested a while ago? Honda also made 500 and 650 turbo sport bikes using the same engines. I would love to get your opinion on one or both of these.

Great video, they sound awesome with Yoshi's. Always been a fan of the 650 curvy's as well. As an interesting aside, Honda built the VTR1000F Superhawk/Firestorm to be the "roll-on king" of bikes. In top gear roll-on tests it would take the CBR1100xx Blackbird 100 meters to catch-up with it and the Fireblade nearly 200 meters to catch it.

The engine and chassis is brilliant but brakes and suspension are crap. Buy the adaptor brackets to put the CBR900 nissin calipers on the front with sintered pads. Swap the fork internals for stiffer springs. A GSXR 600 rear shock drops straight in. Drop one tooth on the front sproket (or +3 on the back) if you have the S version. and replace the throttle tube with a 1/5 turn from a GSXR 600 as opposed to the 1/6 turn which comes as standard. There is also a bracket for a gsxr steering damper. Go to Traxxion Dynamics for parts For the 2003 version only there is an easy fix for the issue of slipping into neutral when going from 1st to 2nd gear. There is tiny part for this to be replaced in the clutch housing. All these mods are very cheap and they will totally transform the riding experience of this bike. Have had this bike for 14 years and will never let it go.

They’re not underrated, they’re just good beginner motorcycles. And that’s where the positives end The minute you start developing your cornering techniques and you become more confident as a rider and you push the bike more, the budget aspect of these bikes become clear. The brakes and suspension are crap. It’s scary how bad the brakes are on my SV650’s, and I had them refreshed about a year and a half ago. It’s a good thing v-twins have a hell of a lot of engine braking to assist you in slowing down I’ve also ridden an SV1000 as well and while the suspension is better than the 650s, it’s still budget, and won’t compete with anything in the 1000cc sportbike range from other manufacturers

The SV engines are some of the longest lasting in motorcycling. 100k mile should be easy with just oil changes and valve checks. Thats what i look for in a motorcycle. The V-strom platform is the best place for it though.

man i love your channel and have been a fan sense i got into riding this year! this month oct 10th i got my hands on a sv1000s stunt bike and i loved the bike with all my heart it was tuned with a Power commander and Yoshimura rs3 exhausts but oct 13 2023 i got into a low speed accident where the jeep Infront of me was texting and driving and it was stop and go traffic and the jeep slammed on his brakes from about 35 to 0 nearly hitting the person Infront of us and i however was not able to slow down or weave out of the way in time and ended up clipping the jeep going about 15-20 mph braking and locking my brakes up from the left lane clipping the jeep on the rear right bumper lost control of the bike that high sides me and the girl i was riding with under a semi truck in the right lane. this was on i81 southbound near hershey pa. both my ancles got ran over by the semi but somehow i didn't break them! they were super swollen and Im still recovering from it now, the girl i was riding with she broke her ankle thankfully it was a fracture and not a full break still waiting for more details from her. its just a miracal Im honesty alive because it ran my ancles over while i was a ball so a few more inches could have been my life and this isn't deterring me from riding as i have a 83 xj550 maxim that i have had issues with the exhausts so i bought the sv1000s and had a fun 3 days with it but its freaky i crashed Friday the 13th lmao. but hey im still here and i genuinely plan on buying my next bike from you guys i see how thorough you are about the bikes and it will make me feel alot better the next time i buy a bike instead of getting one on marketplace agian. i loved the sv1000s i really wasn't expecting it to be as fast as it was with a tune and on a private roadway i was able to achive 173 mph with a little more in it with how myn was set up. the bike really was as i said it everything i cracked the throttle what the f*** type of fast it was fun while it lasted hopefully one day i can snag another one for a good deal! but sadly after the tow bill i cant afford to get the bike out and i think the block is cracked because the semi did drag it 250 yards from where i was laying on the ground... so i gotta try to get this maxim running again so i can ride again befor winter. or hell maybe during if Im feeling up to snow slides lol! i havent shared my story really anywhere because im honestly embarrassed about crashing its my first wreck ever 3 days after i get a supersport so it sounds bad am i not wrong and i figured id share here!
