I have owned a 2007 GSX-R 1000 just like this one since 2009. Pros: Very powerful. Very fast (even by todays standards) Very comfortable. Very reliable, low maintenance. Hard to kill. Holds its value extremely well for its age. Cons: OEM BRAKES SUCK. The original brake master cylinder had a recall & the TOKICO calipers are not very strong. OEM steering damper is worthless Hydraulic Clutch (pulls smooth but requires service) Recommendations: Replace front brake master with updated version. Steel Braided brake lines Replace oem steering damper with aftermarket (GPR/Scotts) Replace dual stock exhaust and catalytic converter to reduce weight and increase HP. Bonus: Power Commander & high air flow filter (K&N)

tbh i’m only 17 and last year owned a 50cc bike. my dad owns a bunch of bikes from 390s to 600s to a gsxr1000. i’m often home alone and take his 390 ktm around the country roads in my county. today i took the plunge and went with the gsxr… it ended… well. i did a 150 ish mile run and ive never grinned so much in my life (i was just praying the cops didnt catch me as you have to be 24 in my country to ride one of these) the endless power, the agility, the flickable-ness was just INSANE. i met up with my friends and raced their little 1-liter first cars and absolutely smoked them😂 i felt like a boss and swinging through those twistys at 60 then with a tiny blip of the throttle up to 80 in literally milliseconds is something my 17 year old self only really experienced on the passenger seat. I loved it! my dads is a 2003 gsxr1000 with no ABS, TRC or wheelie control so it felt like a death trap and i knew i had to be extra cautious but it sure was fun😂

@@John-209 Sad story. Buddy of mine had an 80's turbo Kawi, the original Widow makers. The GSXR1000 won't actually "outbrake anything on the road" as stated in the video - it has a 140ft 60mph-0mph stopping distance. A Honda Odyssey does 126ft in the same test. An F150 does 132ft. Most sports cars and hot hatches on decent tyres do sub 100ft. No bikes I can find do sub 100ft, or even sub 120ft. A motorbike only has 2 tyres with miniscule contact patches. By the laws of physics they cannot stop anywhere near as well as almost any car, even a pickup or a 7 seater minivan. Trying to outbrake anything else doing an emergency stop on a bike will just result in hitting the back of them.
@reivax63682 жыл бұрын
When he says "outbrake" he doesn't actually mean going from 60-0 or stopping completely, yes cars can usually fully stop quicker than most bikes, but bikes can decelerate faster than most cars, not fully stop faster. For example a gsxr1000 can go from 100 mph to 30 mph faster than 99% of cars. You are right in the sense than the tires of a bike would lock up because of the small contact patches if the same pressure was applied to the brakes on those of a car, but when decelerating the light weight of the bike prevents it from sliding. An 850lb Harley's brakes will lock up more easily than a 400lb sport bikes brakes if the same break pressure is applied.

So true. I just bought an 03 Yamaha R1 and stock this thing runs a 10.17 quarter at @140 mph. The newer models are faster, but only after 110 mph. I don't think I'll ever need to be able to accelerate faster above 110 mph now that I'm 46 and not wanting to see Jesus yet 😂. Besides, the torque of this older motor is higher in the mid range rpms, so it's actually faster 0-60 than the 04 model that makes 173 hp vs my 150. That increase in mid torque is what I'll be using more than that max hp at 13k rpms.

@@instant8195 👋 that'd be me. My parents weren't so supportive of the idea lol but I had just turned 18 and was rebellious.. I killed it 3 times leaving the dealership, dropped it the first time I put the kickstand down, and low sided it on the third day. Riding became an obsession and eventually I became ONE of the best riders in my area. About 2 years and 20k miles later, a close childhood friends of mine was street racing a 09 R1 after a friendly disagreement regarding the power the relatively new cross plane yamaha engine made. He bobbed when he should have weaved and clipped the left corner of a 18 wheeler trailer at 158mph (according to the traffic homicide investigator who pulled the ECM and said that's the speed that the engine shut off at) he died instantly. I live very close to Barber motorsports park, and even closer to 14 miles of the twistiest public road I've ever seen, with the exception of the dragons tail. Motorcycle Drag racing and canyon racing was huge in my area in my teens and early twenties. However after losing several friends I sold my sport bikes and quit racing.

@@ravindecavalier2912 The liter bikes just seem to have a lot more demand. Maybe people think they’re safer or something, I don’t know. They’re both equally deadly IMO lol, and the liter bikes are just about as fast as the hyperbikes; running around 10 in the quarter and sub 3 second 60’s. As far as any amateur rider is concerned they’re equally as fast in straights. Liter bikes handle better and the hyperbikes are more comfortable. Although I wouldn’t say the 14 is designed for long distances. My hands would start to go numb at 30 mins. The concourse is a better option and only slightly slower.

Its amazing how much better the new bikes are... 157 to the wheel 460lbs from a 2007 while my new R1S (the cheaper lower performance version) puts down 179 wheel and weighs 419lbs (actually 399 since I took a lot off it). The new GSXRs are even more powerful once ECU is flashed/ tuned and can put down 195 or so to the wheel!
@Chrisnuzzo762 жыл бұрын
But the newer bikes have almost no lower rpm power. All that hp is up there in the 12k+ rpm range. The older superbikes were made more for street use and not as dedicated for track use. If you ride against an 03 R1 he'd either be right next to you or beating you up until about 100 mph, and if you spend a lot of time over 100 mph you will definitely be seeing Jesus pretty quickly 😂. Older R1 only has 152 hp, but the dyno sheets show more power in lower rpms than newer bikes with 30-50 more hp. Even the quarter mile times are like 1 or 2 tenths of a second difference, and another reason for that is because your computer stuff forces your bike to slow down.

I rarely let it loose but there is a 10 mile stretch east of Rudyard Montana you can see it entirely on a clear day....... Not comfortable for any long distance in the riding position you are forced into and I often warmed my hands on top of the cylinderhead. "This motorcycle was meant to win races and send people to Jesus." By far the BEST comment I have ever heard from anyone describing a sportbike. Well done. You owe me a new Macbook Air keyboard bro because I spit my water out when I heard that!

The stock steering damper is quite bad tho. I had a slapper at 180kph and almost came off. Good idea is to take it out and put a 10w in. Had no issues since

To this date the 2005/06 GSXR 1000 still has the fastest 0-60 time of any street bike ever made. Yes even the H2.

@GoldenCroc4 жыл бұрын
Maybe so, but it doesnt mean much to be honest since 0-60 hasnt been limited by power for over 30 years now. So its more about a certain rider having a good day. A suzuki RF900 did just about the same time as the GSXR1000 and it lacks 45 horses and weighs about 70lbs more. Place 30 lbs of lead on front axle of the GSXR and it would be even faster 0-60... Thats why the RF900 can match its time, its got a longer wheelbase. Conversly, more modern bikes are too short and even harder to launch.

Definitely have your Front and Back braking skills ready...I rode a 1997 yzf600r for years..I learned to use both brakes. The front brakes are very powerful and saved me, along with the back brake countless times. Using both brakes is just a part of riding. 👍😊❤️🙏

On the track we never even used the rear brake since the rear wheel is nearly off the ground anyway.

1000cc Bikes are amazing, you need to work your way up to them, but once your there and you gain some experience riding them, theres nothing else like it. Currently riding a 2007 Fireblade in the Repsol Colours, never get bored of it.

Fell down the KZbin rabbit hole and ended up on this video. Great content, but more than that, your ride looked like it was from “back home” By that I mean I didn’t know where you were located and the longer you rode, I kept saying “that’s PA or MD”. I’m from a small town just over the PA border in MD. This time of year I’d be traveling there to visit family, but things being what they are, I doubt my Florida license plate would be overly welcome. FYI - brand new motorcycle rider (Suzuki sport bike at age 50), with no plans to own a liter bike. But they sure look fun! Thank you for the views from home!

This was my first taste of a liter bike after riding a Ducati scrambler 800 for two years. It was miserable on the street, but I loved the speed. Ended up getting a ktm 1290 super duke r shorty after. Totaled that bike due to target fixation on a curb after 10 days and 400mi of ownership. Any bike with 130+ hp is scary fast. In a good way.

Very good review, but according to a couple of sources, the dry weight of the 07 machine was 379 lbs+-. Wet was 423lbs. You indicated 460 lbs. I agree with you when you indicated the 599cc GSXR reaches it's strongest power curve at around 8K RPM. I owned one of my most favorite bikes, a 2006 Honda 600RR and experienced for the first time a similar power curve of it's 599cc engine. Aside from owning a BSA, Honda 450 DOHC, most of my bikes since have been Ducatis. The Honda was my first inline 4 and I was blow away by the power it produced for being only 599cc. The V Twin Ducatis had great torque in all gears, but didn't have that turbo effect like the Suzuki or Honda at higher RPMs. As with the Suzuki, after 7k RPM the Honda also took off like a rocket all the way to red line and from what I recall that was around 14k RPMs. The power was addicting and eventually got me into trouble when I almost killed myself in a very bad road accident. Currently I ride a Ducati 999R and your review now makes me interested in getting another 600 or the 1000 in the year range you featured, affordability being a big factor. However, maybe I might consider a newer one just to experience modern electronics for the first time. Power is a non-issue because the bikes you highlighted had plenty of that on tap, no need for anymore.

8:00 Right on! And also the better handling with the power to get you away from trouble.That's why cruisers and UJMs are more dangerous for new and exp riders than a lightweight sport bike.
