also a good pairing. drives the DBR62 just fine. sufficiently detailed, rich sound together.

This is one of the best amps we've heard with these speakers. They sound more balanced than with many others, and it seems to add life and energy on top that they've been missing with some other amps. It's still not the most dynamic listen though, and is blown away by the Revel at the same price.

@@davidcarr2216 The R200 is not worth an extra $500 just for a fancy veneer. Andrew still likes the Lumina II the most of all the bookshelves, but I doubt that I would, at least from what I've heard on YT. He does like the M16 a lot too. However, he also likes the new B&W 705S3 and the 805D4. They like even brighter speakers than I do, and they didn't like the Kanta 1 that much. The one thing we do agree on is that the La Scala is the best ever, lol.

@@DougMen1 Yeah, they seemed to think that the R200 SA needed to be redesigned somehow but it's all ready eceptionally good. They seemed to REALLY like the M16s. The woofer is interesting being an aluminium/ceramic sandwich affair, especially at this price point.

Ok, forget comparisons of these to the Concertas or Focals. If those are your flavor these Elacs are probably too soft and subtle to you, but if you like softer edges and smooth musicality compare these to the Denton 80ths, and you'll hear those out-do these in detail, vividness, presence, punch, have more lifelike 'woodiness', 'nutiness'..all of it. Both have a mid-rich, non bitey, musical quality, but to me the 80ths are simply a more engaging speaker because they reveal more musical information.

Tend to agree with DM. We've heard these speakers with lots of amps before and they've sounded decent enough but nothing special. This Peachtree Nova seems to get them sounding something like they should and now they sound very decent but I'd say that all of Es top tier speakers are still better. The M16s are indeed very acomplished and refined speakers if you don't mind the bass boost.
@DougMen12 жыл бұрын
That's why it's good to have tone controls or EQ. And, as far as bass goes (treble is different), it's probably better to have too much and turn it down some, as opposed to not enough and turning it up some, which could make the woofer stressed/overworked and distort, to the point of even affecting the mids.
@williammiebach17982 жыл бұрын
Interesting you feel that way. I didn't have the impression the Revels boosted or exadurated the bass. I feel its fairly strong and focused but not overdone.
@DougMen12 жыл бұрын
@@williammiebach1798I don't think it's boosted, but it would be too much in my small room with them close to the back wall, as I have to do, because it's my only option. I've found that 5" woofers generally work better here than 6.5" ones, however my KEFs have 2 8" ones, but they're the exception, and they're also acoustic suspension, and not ported.
@williammiebach17982 жыл бұрын
@@DougMen1 I have the same problem here, but I'm even more limited to 4" rear ported or 5 1/4" front ported or acoustic suspension, but more for placement space and full soundstage development reasons than too much bass, but that's only because of some well placed acoustic treatment.

Here's the new flagship Dali Kore, at 350 lbs. each and a price of 80K Euros, 70K pounds. They sound very good, but they'd better at that price! kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYOTq3V5aJigqdU That channel also has the new R200AE, which sounds thin in the bass there, just like the R200 here with the Peachtree amp. They also have all the new B&W 700S3 series, and the smallest bookshelf, the 707S3, and the 2nd smallest floorstander, the 703S3, sounded the least recessed and the fullest in the mids, compared to the 706, 705, 704, or 702. I only listened to the Diana Krall tune on them all, not every song, and her voice sounded the fullest to me on the 707 and 703.

This amp seems to fill in, or cover up a bit of the missing presence of these Elacs a touch. The softer edges of the DBRs work pretty well with the focused, slightly edgy texture the Nova has to me. They make music together but are in nowhere near the same league as the Revels in detail, tonal transparency, or bass impact. With this amp the Revel Concertas are clearly in a higher league than these and the Polk R200s as well. For me only the Dentons offer anything over the Revels, in the form of more lifelike organic texture wich is the Wharfedales charm for me, but the Revel is the better speaker in other ways...at least with this Peachtree.
