@kennhi2008 The SS United States was a transatlantic liner and was retired in 1969 because more people were turning to air travel across the atlantic starting in the late 50s. Nice Koch brothers explanation however.

It's from an album called "Let's Dance On Board the SS United States" with the Meyer Davis Orchestra under the baton of Alfred Menconi. And you're right, at the time I made this video, it was only available on an out of print LP. Now you can download it on iTunes! So glad you liked it. Such a passion of mine!

I love your videos! The S.S. United States is too important to be allowed to fall apart or be scrapped. She deserves a second life because she was retired so young. She is from an era where America was at its best. Ingenuity made us the nation we are, and this ingenuity gave birth to the most carefully designed ocean liner in the world. Even if she is now just a hull, she is a beautiful and historically important hull. The final winner of the Blue Ribband needs to be rescued from neglect.

Great video! The songs of the medley: The lady is a tramp/Just in time/You're the cream in my coffee/I'm in the mood for love/???/???/Merely marvelous/???/???. Meyer Davis has to have led one of my favorite dance orchestras, and the SSUS is by far my favorite liner. What a perfect combo! I have never heard these recordings before, but the crackles before the first one lead me to believe that it is direct off of vinyl. Would you please enlighten me on the name of the album and other songs?

@shipgeek I downloaded that album, but these tracks weren't on there. My guess is that their LP was damaged on these tracks. If that is the case, I hope they find another LP to complete the album! There are only 7 of the tracks on iTunes.

Ack! My apologies! Yes, this is the Meyer Davis Orchestra, but it's not from the SSUS album. It's from "Meyer Davis Cordially Invites You to Dance to the Music of his Orchestra" which doesn't seem to be on iTunes. Anyway, my apologies for the confusion!
