Why is it with SSB4 that we're getting character requests that aren't even in the realm of reality? At least with SSBB, we stayed somewhat grounded. Quick refresher on non Nintendo characters... 1) Has to have at least ONE game on a Nintendo console (no Steve from Minecraft) 2) Has to have ORIGINATED in a video game (no Goku) Also Sakurai said not to expect a ton of third party characters. Be thankful we got Mega Man and Sonic.

One other thing. Must have SIGNIFICANCE in Nintendo's history. Both Megaman and Sonic had significance. Snake, on the other hand, was an unreasonable addition. While Sonic and Megaman were requested by the fans and not Sakurai, Sakurai approached Sega and Capcom respectively, while Kojima begged Sakurai to include Snake into Brawl. Long story short, a random character like Maxwell won't make the cut, since he has no significance in Nintendo history.

I was always surprised that in Brawl they didn't have alternate costumes for Snake like old Snake in MSG4, though rumors are going around that Kojima is too busy working on MSG5 and hasn't been approached by Nintendo about bringing Snake back for SSB4. Plus the last MGS game for a Nintendo system was a crappy 3DS port.

Katie Baily Thats true, but there was one for Game Cube as well. The rest are not from the Solid series, but there were MG games for NES that had pretty high importance. I don't like how it currently seems they removed characters. Solid Snake is understandable because Nintendo doesn't own the rights for the MG series, but when they (possibly) take away iconic characters such as Cpt. Falcon and Ganondorf, that bugs me a little.

***** Male Wii Fit Trainer probably won't even occupy a character slot, so I don't see how it's even a big deal. It's not hard to slap a model onto the wire frame of an existing character, hackers do it all the time for Brawl. Honestly, I think Sakurai could keep the SSB4 roster as sleek as possible and simultaneously satisfy consumer demands by giving skins to more characters. The only people who might complain about that would probably be casuals who, for some reason, would want someone like (example) Blood Falcon as his own separate character from Captain Falcon, which is a complete waste of a character slot in my opinion.

The best part is now, Nintendo has started the Smash Fighter poll where fans can vote for new Smash fighters so this stupidity is starting all over again. Team Meat is trying to get Meat Boy in Smash yet Super Meat boy isn't on Nintendo systems immediately disqualifying it. There are the FF fans wanting Cloud and Sepiroth trying to use the small Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories cameo as qualifying. Of course people are trying to get back all the cut fighters from Melee and Brawl such as Roy, Wolf and Snake. People wanting Crash and Spyro since PS All Stars didn't pan out for them. Sonic fans still trying to get the whole slew of Care Bear colored cohorts in the game. Seriously Sonic fans why aren't you petitioning Sega to make a follow up to Sonic Battle or better yet get Sega to make their own mascot fighter. Seriously why does that NOT exist?

Katie Baily I've seen loads of indie developers asking people to vote for their character(s) to be in Smash Bros. I honestly don't see a lot of them as really "deserving" to take up a slot in all honesty though. I think that characters that contributed to Nintendo should be getting the vote, like Simon Belmont. Castlevania has contribted a lot to Nintendo systems. A lot of the indie devs asking for votes haven't even made a game for Nintendo.
