Yeah, I already wondered what problems the lack of open-bracket big events might create. NA will do relatively well in the top 30 area and not so well besides that, I'm guessing. But hey, Glutonny did have the international success you were hoping for at least.

Whats insane about all this too is that Miya actually heavily dragged down japans overrall ranking in the algorithms, because he lost to so few JP players but was consistently getting upset in NA. If he had stayed in japan all season, we could have legit gotten 7/10 of the top 10 being from japan.

I think the biggest problem is the lack of outsiders attending JP events that ultimately affect the rankings the way it is, due to the fact that it's very difficult to without any financial or other needing assistance from Japan as they might be the only country for Smash that does not help others come in (other Asian countries, South American countries, European Countries, and North American countries have helped outsiders for many years... and yes I understand Japan has dumb laws/policies that might prevent from doing similar) Nothing wrong with all the JP events and high ranked centric events and players, it's just that I wish there were feasible opportunities for those outside of Japan that want to go to Japan now that it's the center of Smash, and yes it's difficult to get there without proper assistance + logistical issues and people need to understand all of this cause idiots still be spewing out "just go to Japan" without thinking about anything else

It's not that hard to go there, just expensive... Specially from South America. Language might be a barrier but like what do you expect? Also in terms of ranking is it even a good thing for an outsider to go there? Maybe you will feel more anxiety for playing on an unfamilar setting with people that don't even speak your language and just lose. So you do well here to go there and donate points to Japanese players just for exp?

The worst part of the ranking seasons is that everyone was complaining about 2023 rankings being full season (myself included I’ll admit) and it’s so annoying that it’s either divisive or people talking down to the people behind the scenes which is disrespectful Now it’s 2024 and I think the seasons are short and it’s partly due to certain events not happening that year and that some of the best players like Acola and Sonix hardly attend stuff and yet are seen as top 5 players (which they are but it’s ridiculous) and it just hurts that it may be better off it was a full season lmao

im worried about it, but japan also did not do very well at cirque or riptide in NA (aside from miya and shuton performing well at the respective events, but japan as a whole did not really perform that well)

Exactly though, Miya literally won the whole event and Shuton runner up at the other Surely the others did poor but You’d be hard pressed to say Japan“underperformed”
