SSL 316 ~ We get our NEW HIGHFIELD DINGHY and YAHAMA ENGINE in St Martin!!

This is the episode we've all been waiting for... what happened to PACMAN?!? Yes, our old centre console dinghy is sold, and we finally take possession of a new lighter, stronger dinghy made by Highfield Boats that has a double aluminum hull and a new Yamaha 25hp 4-stroke motor... this baby flies! Now we are ready for the start of new travels we've been dreaming about for the past years, and even have FKG Machine in St Martin rebuild out davits into a single lift arm on a single line, so one person can pull the dinghy out of the water with ease on one winch... AWESOME!!!!

Like the new dinghy, but the Arch is GREAT! MUCH better than davits. Less Bullshit. If you had a boat with lower freeboard, you could even install an arch up Forward, and hoist her in over the side., depending on your headsail setup.

Man , I love it when a plan comes together! Nice new dinghy and motor. I am amazed at how relaxed you are through all the evolutions I've seen. Taking things a day at a time I guess. Better go sail somewhere to really relax. Never can get enough helm time.

Great informative video Rick. Been waiting a long time for this day, Congratulations. Really like these type of videos to see what it takes to live aboard full time. Island Water World did a great job with helping you decide which one to get. FKG did an excellent job building the davit, looks like quality work. Out door World did a great job with Pac Man, that engine sounded great and the new dinghy should give you years of dependable service.

Rick we think you made the right choices. We got a Highfield hypalon with a Yamaha before set out on our adventure. cracking engine and RIB. Great with our two pooches who just love to go ashore by RIB. Take a look at our vids; "Love me tender" , "Davits and dogs", and "Holes in the boat ". Same choices, smaller scale. Pity u couldn't have utilised the existing framework(strengthened) for the dinghy davids . One thing u will love is the extra bit of speed sailing , Packman is a fair bit of drag.Up in the Islands i used the dinghy on davits as a water collector ....

I would just suggest you show the finished product for the dinghy's home you just had built. Maybe show the easy way you can lift it. We saw bits and pieces and then it was hanging there as the new owner drove off in the old dinghy. Otherwise a great video. Thanks Rick.

Hi Rick, thanks for sharing all your adventures. I think you answered my question at the end of your video but I am curious what was your logic behind getting a new dingy that did not have a steering console? Was it purely because you needed to get it out of the water for ocean crossing? I am dingy shopping and I have always appreciated how comfortable you looked in your videos cruising around on your dingy with back support. I am interested in finding a dingy that has a very low steering console that doesn't get in the way of my solar panels when it's hoisted up on the davits. I would love to find one that has back support too! Any recommended you can make are appreciated. Thanks and fair winds! :)

Just curious why you did not get an electric start engine? Nice set up with the swing davit, tender and engine...You will love it....Size does not always matter...

they did not have the electric start version in stock, but still thinking about adding in the small removable console that is available for the new Highfield, and you can always convert the engine anytime you want.

I don't know where you got that statistic, but in reality it's nowhere even close to that... maybe a quarter, but even then that is amortized mostly over the past 7 years since I started posting AmbientReallife videos on the channel.. and KZbin Apocalypse certainly changed those parameters when it hit in early 2017.. been a looong, slooow rebuild from there :)
