It's amazing on Metal! The Transformer did some awesomeness to the bass in the metal track. I installed my SSL Fusion today and tried it on a friends pre master Techno track and was left massively wanting. More tests to come. Your video got me super inspired to test this beast!

Man, this unit is awesome. Only reason to get this though is the stereo imaging and HFC. The EQ is pretty disappointing considering the cost.. I expected a 3 band. Drive module is badass, but I get very very similar result from the SSL six by just cranking the gain. The input-output trim is a great addition too. PERSONALLY, this unit is awesome.... but for people who don't have any other gear. Other than that it's really just more candy for the studio. BTW, thanks for showing the extremes man, it's really the best way to tell the "Sound" of any analog gear, much appreciated.

Do you have these symptoms? I seem to have problem with SSL FUSION. When I remove the pen DRIVE counterclockwise, I have small noise, and in the right channel it more than on the left! This is clearly seen if put an L2 limiter on the DAW master section, and turn the limiter all the way. I urgently need to find out because my SSL FUSION is still under warranty!

Today I've read it has full SSL comp on; you just hold the button of HF comp for more than 5 seconds and it becomes the full frequency working SSL comp. It was the surprise (hidden gem)of the SSL company. :) so yeah. Crazy:))

@mister poopies I respectfully DISAGREE. You can turn the volume 1db up and not only will it change the timbre of the sonics but listeners will ALWAYS choose the louder one because our brains always think that louder is better (within reason of course), and why?..because it usually sounds better. It's the same reason why when I add an element to the mix/master, I ALWAYS do it first at unity gain. Rule 101; always check your changes at unity gain and listen to what it's REALLY doing or not. In this case it made a minuscule difference when he did.

not really.the hf comp is not ur usual comp and needs no pre option imho. and if u use a external comp u can swap the insert pre. best, felix

This unit is overhyped I think. I was playing with it in Amsterdam show, was dissapointed. When you tweak everything to the level you think you've improved the sound, but it sounds even better when bypassed because it's more natural... Nah. A great marketing trick however "everything for mastering in one box!"

Very underwhelming sound to it. I went with a Neve MBP over this and I'm very happy I did. After hearing an A/B after your processing, there was not a sound I would be willing to throw $2500 at.

This is more a color box not the hammer for hitting hard. MBP is totaly different animal and it's boring or better said "nothing special"; the silk and the width functions are great, that's about it. Everything else you can do by plugins. SSL fusion is special unit for delicate work making Mona Lisa's out of music. The new Neve MBT is better choice. Now, that's a better stuff.

Saying the MBP is 'nothing special' is a trivial statement, and shows you haven't done precise listening with this unit. The silk is probably one of the most 'limited' functions of this box considering it can't be applied to M/S independently. I have gripes about the MBP, which proves my analysis. You have nothing but empty statements about the SSL Fusion. Sounds like a fan boy, just saying.

@@AnnoDominiAudio The silk is the best thing about this unit because it takes into consideration both - mid range and sides - it has combined (different) effect for both and it's not over the top. You have "drive" if you want to go crazy. MBT is great, but for the price it goes? I don't think so. MBT is not going to change the sound of your mix so much more than SSL fusion that you're going to say: oh, yeah, now this is a mix. If you know how to mix, the little goes a long way and SSL fusion is more than enough.

@@b.hornetiii.6771 To each their own, but I wouldn't let price cloud my judgement. Again, after doing my listening on all of these units, the SSL Fusion wouldn't even get used in my rack. You are correct that a little goes a long way, but it's the mix you put in that counts. If you have a solid mix, transparency is the goal, and the Neve units do that very well while maintaining the dynamics. I just don't enjoy the coloration that the SSL Fusion adds to a mix. Just my opinion.

@@AnnoDominiAudio I work on EDM music and I have a real problem giving that "sterile mix" a little analog spice (color, transformer's mojo) all over. I' ve tried with steinberg's UR RT2 interface that has Neve's transformers option (On- off), but that was not designed for the whole mix to go through it just ruins the lows and the highs, width etc., so I'm looking this SSL Fusion as a saviour for my problem. I want that crisp punch, a little width and warmth. If the Neve MBT is so much better I will go for MBT. I thought SSL would be enough for spiceing things up, is it that much of a difference?
