Your throttle reversal had me cracking up laughing. 20 years ago, i had an adjustable variable pitch prop on my sailboat. One winter, I took all the blades off to do a great job polishing them at a machine shop. Anyway, I followed the manual and reinstalled the blades. Unfortunately, when the boat was put in the water, you can guess. Putting the boat in gear, it went opposite. We had to do a short haul to change the blades.

Looks like a Perkins 4-236? I have two in my trawler. Excellent engines. I have Velvet drives as transmissions, not quite as pleased with them but serviceable for now. I do prefer separate shift and throttle levers but looks like it would be a pain to change on your boat, Maddy gets the decorating award though. What color co-ordination! Bravo!

Capt. Rick, about the shift handle’s Phillips head mounting screw. Maybe consider making that a stainless bolt with lock-washer. Watching how much movement it requires, forward, backwards, in-out, a bolt would be more secure, and as you know, a the slots on Phillips head can round-out and it’s a P-I-T-A. Just my 10¢s

To unstick the throttle controller you need two hammers. Hold the bigger hammer against the controller at the 9:00 O’clock position and tap the controller at the 3:00 O’clock position. The reason this works is because the blow and the diagonally opposite reaction tend to ovalize the stuck controller and when you do this around the circumference it works!

Capt'n next time you get a set of screwdriver's get the ones with anvil's on the butt's. helps with corroded screws. if screwdriver has square shank or a hexxed portion can use a wrench to apply torque as Maddie taps the anvil. as long as they don't steer us North when we're trying to go SW! :)
@smulismuli79763 жыл бұрын
They are and in the days when only compasses and paper charts were used you had to calculate the deviation between magnetic north and true north. Depending of boat and how close the compass was of things like engine or other sources of interference had to be taken into account too. Today with gps, plotters and multiple systems running it’s “less of an issue” or better said most people don’t pay as much attention to it. It also depends where in the world are you
