I’m loving this process of stone and now the wood comes in… neat, unique and it’ll last you your lifetime if not longer. That’s a ton of chickens and goats, or whatever else fits in there. You’ve done a great job

Man you could put a fire place and a TV in that mansion. I'm also glad to see it's not just my daughter that "helps" me work on stuff. I think they enjoy annoying dad when we're trying to work. 😂

That is so cool, I’m in Ontario and it gets cold here too, I’ve lined my laying box with 1inch foam board and it helps the eggs not freeze, just have to cover the parts the chicken can peck,,they love foam for some reason😒 anyway just enough to line your egg holding area should work! We just got our first snow, but I new it was coming and put up a huge tarp over my coop build,lol great channel, thanks for the ideas! Have a great day everyone!

The training egg goes in the nest box side, not the egg collection side. We've got one of those and love it. Very clean eggs. We put pipe insulation along the bottom edge to prevent egg cracking.

My suggestion is leave the door open until sunset. Because sometimes they will get spooked and they will run to the safety of the coop. That’s what I did with my chickens, I cross fenced 1 acre for them. I opened the door in the morning and closed it up at dark, they naturally go in at dark. ( dusk)

🐔VERY NICE !🐓The scrap linoleum looked like the perfect size to put on the roosting bars. It really helps with cleaning those as apposed to cleaning bare wood. What is the bottom inside the cave for ? Maybe for the goats? Thanks for sharing..👍

We've lost chickens to foxes in the middle of the day several times even with guard dogs. The problem was that the chicken yard was too far from the house. We have them closer now.

Also, we stopped shutting our mobile coop/chickshaw at night when we adopted our Pyrenees. She keeps everything away and I don't have to get out there at 6am to let chickens out. Would probably work with a stationary coop like yours too! Haven't smelled a skunk nearby since having her.

Nice job but please put in an L -shaped 2x2or 2x4 piece of wood to get birds off of the floor. 15-20 birds on the ground will be a lot . Any windows in the top? Need light and more ventilation than just the door. I love it so far
@selador113 жыл бұрын
Need some windows. Less light = less eggs. Maybe poly roofing?

Any worries that the eggs may freeze, since the section they'll be rolling to is not really insulated from the weather? Even if there's not snow on it, I'd imagine that metal could get extremely cold during your Michigan winters.

There is a heated mat on its way that hasn’t been delivered yet, because you are correct!

You could have the chicken steps go up in the middle of the deck so they walk up through a doorway, goat proof.?
@EngineersHomestead3 жыл бұрын
I built an 8'x8' walk in shed coop. Used cheapest storm door I could find. I decided to staple down my cheapo Menards linoleum to make replacement easier. Which door are you using? I'm having good luck with the Run Chicken model T50 off Amazon. I see alot of KZbinrs getting Omlet brand doors sponsored. I went with single slope roof with standard barn metal on top. Let me know if you want any pictures, I can share on FB.

Hello from the Netherlands . if that's just a magnetic door in the nest box, could predators get in through there? . I think I would take the magnet off and put two latches on it . that is perhaps a little less easy for yourself, but at least you know that nothing can come in that is not allowed. Sincerely Hollandduck from the Netherlands

@acornhomestead35753 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking could you put the feed up there connected to an automatic feeder that feeds and waters inside the coop? Access from the short wall?
@josephkrug85793 жыл бұрын
You may have mentioned it somewhere and I missed it, but is the automatic chicken door tied to rfid leg bands on the chickens or just a timer? Years ago I saw a video where someone had a rfid cat collar and used that to make an automatic cat door, so it would be more work, but you could make an automatic chicken door possibly :) At least for going in, then once they were all in, you could have it time lock for the night or send you an alert that someone is not inside where they should be.
@michellejaggard96573 жыл бұрын
Can you tell me how much the nesting box is? And where to get one? I really like it. I only have 8 hens, it would be really perfect for me. Love that coop! I used your directions for your other coop and built one with just a very few modifications. I didn't put the egg boxes on yet but seeing this I think I like this.
