One benefit of painting the stairs minus the treads is it will give contrast to those guests you could have with low vision. It might seem odd to people with good eyes, but many with low vision have issues if steps are all one color as they can't get definition.

Definitely put a light color on at least the risers. Will match the house better, give contrast to the stairs, and will add better visibility.

The first step is one inch higher than the rest and the top one is who knows how much less. If you needed an inspection a 1/4” would fail you. People need to be very careful using them because of the difference in height.
