Not as green as it was when I first moved to StAlbans, the libdems have sold every bit of green they can find . Verulam park survives because its protected by law , historical importance . Same as the abbey park. But other parts, if they can fit a couple of luxury apartments on it the council sell it to developers , We use to have 2 museums, one displaying the Roman history and the other the Saxon, Norman, medieval, Tudor etc , the building was donated by a philanthropist to the people of StAlbans to be a museum displaying our 2000+ years of constant history. But the council found a loophole, something about after the person has been dead over a 100 years they can take ownership, they did and they sold it , it's now a couple of million pound luxury apartments. . The grade 2 listed old courthouse and basement cells almost 300 years old, the council managed to sell or lease it it's now a tacky trashy tea/ cake shop . Which wasn't needed because its surrounded by about 10 others , but any way of adding to the council coffers they will do it,, it's sad

I heard that st albans does not have windy weather like london is that true? I have shitty windy weather.
@NTL578 Жыл бұрын
Like London? It's not far off the same area. The further east you go, the less wind you'll have until you get within about 15 miles of the coast. It probably has less wind than 80% of the country. Hope that answers your question.

I have been watching a few of your videos - tech question - what camera do you use? Whatever it is, is copes well with contrasty light and shadow - good dynamic range.

Thanks! The camera's a Sony FDR-AX700. Its auto settings seem to do an alright job of adjusting the aperture and ISO according to the changes in light.

Don't live here now but grew up round here. This particular area is very nice but like any city it has its not so nice parts like where I grew up for example. Oysterfields just behind the city hospital not so bad now but used to be horrible especially for outsiders, just some friendly info from a former local and most likely what the tourist Board won't tell any visitors is from where you are you are now you're only 5 minutes away from there stick to the cathedral and around the centre you'll be fine ✌️.

I moved to StAlbans from London before oysterfields existed, it was all allotments, I lived close by on white hedge drive. Your right it was a horrible place at first, full of gypos I lived on the batchwood estate on the left as you drive up the road into oysterfields , It was a nice place, quiet etc , but after they built oysterfields the scummy people crossed into our estate and robbed sheds, burgled homes, cars stolen , a lot of gypos all lived near each other they had grey pickup trucks and what seemed like a million kids , I new a couple of people who were housed there , the first right off the main road into the estate, and further along on the right a couple of little dead end roads with just 3 or 4 houses with parking bays opposite, that end wasn't so bad . Things quietened down after a couple of years. But I moved to a road off holywell hill, opposite the abbey It's a nice area, with about 10 pubs just 2 mins walk from each other .

I am always wary outside London, as I hate Home Counties- however this looks cosmopolitan and bustling
@kevwhufc86406 ай бұрын
Wary of what, most people are wary of London, the crime the lack of police, the conditions in some parts is awful Unless you have money to afford something in the nicer parts of London. I lived in west London, Hounslow ,Cromwell road , before moving to cranford, quite a posh area even though it was the other side of the road from the park . Things were great, 24/7 shops ,takeaway places, a few minutes by tube away from all the cinemas, concert venues, clubs etc and night buses if needed. But after our daughter was born, I'm going back to 1990 You start to notice things, papers news crime , and we decided we didn't want our children growing up in London We moved to StAlbans and our children grew up got married etc etc and we're still happy . So I'm baffled that your wary of home counties, Is it the lack of clubs , the tube , the night buses the 24/7 lifestyle that you think you'll miss , is that what makes you wary ? I'd be interested to hear your reasons :)

@@kevwhufc8640 Multi cultures, liberal broad thinkings and the hustle and bustle. Also I never dissed St Albans, which is a city itself. Nearby Hatfield is a piss heap, as well as Potters Bar. Also I’m North London, Muswell Hill- so I’m happy
@kevwhufc86406 ай бұрын
@@nialwestwood I didn't say you dissed StAlbans , I'm sorry if you've misunderstood my reply . I was just interested in why you were wary of home counties . .. I thought you might be wary about the lack of night life , & all the other stuff I mentioned. But your reply has explained everything. ..And your right about Hatfield btw , I don't know potters bar so i can't comment. Muswell hill IS a really nice part of London, way too expensive for me :) StAlbans is great for its history the roman & the old medieval town . But there's a lot about it that isnt so great., its changed for the worse over the last 20 years.

StAlbans has everything from iron age ditches, Roman remains, Saxon churches, a Norman cathedral, medieval buildings, such as the old clocktower, and the shops around it , some have quite recent facades but they are all large medieval, Tudor, Jacobean . Our history includes names everyone knows, Julius Caesar fought the local tribe attacked their settlements verulamium and wheathampstead , Boudicca just over a century after Caesar's time , left London following watling street north to verulamium and destroyed it . The Abbey church was attacked raided by Vikings, the first battle of what became known as the war of the Roses started in StAlbans 1455, and a second in 1461 , Cromwell passed through and ordered some of his men to fill the abby church with gunpowder and blow it up , his reasons were ,from top to bottom corner to corner papist carvings and imagery filled it & it was to large to waste time breaking, defacing everything , blowing it up would be easier, but apparently the men got drunk and thankfully bodged the fuses , they left quickly to catch up with Cromwell after spending too much time in StAlbans drinking and whoring. In medieval times it was enclosed by walls and ditches with huge gates that were locked up each night. It became known as 'little London ' . Sadly the local councils past and present can't be bothered to promote the citys 2000+ continuous history, they see it as a hinderance rather than something special, as proven by them selling our 2nd museum which continued the story of our post Roman , Saxon medieval etc, citys history, to property developers who built a couple of unwanted unaffordable ( to all but wealthy outsiders ) luxury apartments. They promised locals they would replace, rehouse and improve on the old museum they sold . ..What we actually got was a coffee/ tea cake shop , with some cabinets on the first floor hallway with random, unidentified, no dates no info objects, artifacts. Less than 0.1% of the artifacts on display at the old museum made it to the 'hallway' above the tea/cake shop, its not a museum its just an afterthought , I honestly have more artifacts found locally with my metal detector, from the late bronze age, the iron age, roman, medieval ,Tudor etc etc and could create a display that tells , shows over 2000 years of our city's history our story . The council do have their own, but they are all in hidden away in boxes in the darkness of the council's storage facilities ,which costs them nothing. They took advice about what to do , show in the 'new museum " from archaeologists the Roman museum, and local historical societies , But ignored everything they said... It's a shame I'm ending on a sad story, such a wonderful ancient city deserves much better. Sadly we have people making decisions who just don't care,
