Slippery Morris didn’t hesitate punching on with Mario, Snake O’Grady backed him up & Sludge backed them both up, that’s what team mates do, 3 great players !!
@graguitar6493 Жыл бұрын
Yep they all did ok as well when O'Grady was the only one who new how to punch on supposedly.

Loving these old aussie games from england as never seen them. Nice to see lots of players that came over here in the 80s.

And Steve Rogers went waded right into it like a true captain . Went up to the biggest guy in the Souths team Bill Hardy and started belting him !! I don't know if Souths thought the Dragons were a soft touch but they were not to be trifled with. The Souths bloke who laid a punch of Craig Young while Young was down and couldn't defend himself really sparked this up
@graguitar6493 Жыл бұрын
Definitely new they weren't a soft touch. Stoushes between these 2 clubs was pretty consistent in the early 80s. The Souths forwards, especially Gary Hambly who didn't play in this game thought Albert was just a box head cop. When Hambly and Albert were playing they almost always came to blows. Rampling is the Souths player who belted Albert and he and he's brother were hard heads who hated st.george. In particular they loathed Robert Stone.

Was at this game on the Hill, watching in awe at 12 years old. I believe it was Tugger Coleman who cheap shotted Albert because he said in the Herald, "I got Albert a beauty in the blue". Happy days

Haha, this was a fairly tasty affair! Proper old school. Great game. Half the players on the pitch would be suspended for months in todays world.

Being a keen Dragons supporter, l was thrilled when Steve Rogers walked into where was working as a consultant. Naturally we got chatting about the game ld seen only a few days earlier, and remember telling him how impressed l was when he joined in the all in brawl... Steve laughed and was very modest saying just one of those things... This game reminded me how fit and tough the guys were back in those days , no player took a backward step...and gave as good as they took.. The other thing l picked up on was no islanders in either teams like there are these days.. l think all the modern day players should watch this game or similar and learn a few things about teamwork... 😊

Id say it ended up on the hole just as good. Bowdens demolition job on Broadhurst was what made that brawl the greatest of all time

How's the elbow by Mick Beatie to Baker's head after his 5th tackle kick! Just a penalty. Imagine it today. There would be a royal commission held over FB and Twitter! Ha ha!

As a mad Saints supporter I was at this game with my father as the Sydney Cricket Ground and the next match when Parramatta beat us.

Saints lost to Parra by 1 i think in the major semi. Great team in the first half of the 80's, deserved at least one premiership then.

@@weststigers1879 yep. Kevin Roberts won the day for Parramatta with a couple of fictional penalties. He produced 1 more in the GF the following year that totally turned the game Canterburys way be it take nothing away from the dogs who were the better side

Wow rabs mentioned the Supreme Court , he’s a time traveler 🤣 . It wasn’t the dragons time yet , Eels and dogs had a good run and the dragons , Did what they could do while manly hung around too . Tigers were on the move so too Canberra and the panthers, that’s 82 -92 . Roosters could get a spot in the finals too back then like south’s but they were both playing their own battles.

St George Leagues Club is a wonderful club that won’t help his member with a dead battery in their car park even he has his own jumper lead! Yes, they have the total right not to help as a policy!
