Today, as we remember the Presentation of Our Lord, also known as Candlemas, we reflect on Jesus being the light of the world-a light for revelation and hope. In ancient tradition, this was a day when all the candles for the church year were blessed, symbolizing the presence of Christ in every moment to come. But what does this mean for us today, especially in the face of uncertainty and struggle? Just like Peter in Luke 5:1-11, we often find ourselves in dark, difficult seasons-working hard, feeling discouraged, wondering where God is when our efforts seem to yield nothing. But faith is not about what we can see, feel, or touch. Faith is trusting in the light even when we are surrounded by darkness.
