Considering sand hurt him more than helped him (the whole mega venu synthesis situation), unnerve was smarter in my opinion regardless of the potential colbur berry. Unnerve is actually an excellent ability in the format due to the presence of berries, especially on a banded ttar that relies on hitting hard in order to be effective. Obviously joey wouldn't run acid armor reuniclus with colbur berry, but from a prep perspective, it definitely makes sense to consider a colbur reuniclus to lure a tyranitar.

I wouldn't say you played badly either and it definetely was a good game but I think there were 2 important turns where you "misplayed" or didn't make the optimal play. The first one was the premature SD with Heracross, waiting until the Aggron is weakened enough to where CC kills it, would have been the way to go there. that should have allowed Hera to heaviliy damage something or pick up a kill every time it hit the field. The other one was the Sludge Bomb vs the Reuniclus, I get that this was more due to you mistaking it as a sure kill but a switch into Ttar on the guaranteed Recover could have forced the Pursuit 50:50 and if you win this Reuni is gone and with it Joey's best shot at winning, making this game a lot more open in terms of who could win. regardless, game was fun to watch, hope you go far again this season :-)

Fideel95 It only seemed OP since Dan lost his 2 best responses (Heracross and TTar) while Reuni remained healthy enough to wall off the rest of his team. CB TTar could've also potentially put in work against Joey's team but Joey managed to limit its lifespan with that nice play involving Heavy Slam on the switch. Dan could've put himself in a position where TTar would be able to switch into Reuni without it using Acid Armor / Toxic (basically by forcing it to Recover off the bat, and there were one or two opportunities as you've seen in this battle); unfortunately Dan missed the chance(s) and lost the game due to it. This whole discussion involving Pursuitting the Reuni is how Dan could've avoided being hardwalled by Reuni.

You definitely played very well! I watched the matches side by side and it just seemed like Joey was on top of what you were gonna do 80/90% of the time. Losing Heracross so early definitely hurt the hard body matchup but great match nonetheless. You and Joey (oh and Steve of course but he's not in the UCL) are my favorite poketubers out there and looking forward to seeing you both do well again this season!

I think losing Heracross so early was the beginning of the end. Joey's team is just way too fat and you needed more Pokémon with enough oomph to break them down. You gave it your all though. You'll get it back next week! Rooting for ya!

A drive made some very confident predictions which paid off in the match, the reason he lost was because of the very niche set joey ran on hard body, which neutralized tyranitar, had A drive known joey was running that set he wold have played his hera more carefully, but seeing the opportunity to get rid of beatdown, the largest threat to his team while still having his tyranitar to stop hard body, he decided it was a fair trade. Great game from both, really high level match

That's not what happened though. Ttar got the pursuit off on Kyurem-B bringing it down low, and a few turns later Dan chose to SD vs Aggron and got punished for it with the Heavy Slam. With Heracross effectively dealt with, Joey chose to sack Kyurem to the CC because he no longer needed it to win. At no point did Dan make the conscious decision to trade Heracross for Kyurem. He actually seemed surprised that Joey chose to sack it.

adrive in the ucl you play one of the best offensive teams too defensively, and in the gba you use your defensive team too offensively. if you have defense then heal yourself and play like you need to preserve like you do in the ucl. if you have offense then go for the offensive moves and apply pressure

You should use flame orb on heracross instead of toxic orb because guts negates the half attack from burn

+ashcatchum1 yeah, the Toxic Orb makes it so that the turn 2 damage is equal to turn 1 of burn damage. It works better for a Pokemon that is switching out a lot rather than trying to sweep the whole opposing team. If you're expecting to have the Pokemon in for 5-6 turns at a time, Flame Orb is definitely better.

Might just be me but I think LO/SD (or both) excadrill could've done a lot of work without the tangrowth on joeys team :P I haven't ran the calcs but I think it would've been better if you played like a few weeks ago against mono in the GBA: kill the threat(s) for your win con first, potentially chip some mons down for guaranteed KOs and then try to sweep with it. But still a good battle tho, I really enjoy watching these ^.^

That's why I said that it might have been better to use the playstyle from his battle against mono from a few weeks ago in the GBA, kill the threats first, in this case garchomp and alomomola, and then try to sweep with excadrill. Dan I have a question regarding Guts. Why do people use toxic orb instead of flame? It makes sense to use flame because it doesn't take away as much HP. Toxic orb builds up over time, since you're badly poisoned.

Toxic orb only does more damage if you stay in for 4 or more turns. It'll do less if you're only in for one or two, and the same if you're in for 3.

You take less damage on the first turn with toxic orb. On Pokemon like Herracross who fire off one or two attacks and then switch out toxic orb is a bit better because you take less damage from it.
