I'm sorry. I don't know his identity. You could ask St Mary's band of ringers.

Why has the current tenor been recast?

I don't know. Perhaps @jasnfinlay has some more information

3 HOURS, if I was a bell ringer I'd probably do only 30 minutes

DGJ P Well it is a Peal. I am a ringer in Sussex and i am going to ring my First Quater peal (45-50mins) soon!

You'd be fine! A great deal of ringers have never rung peals, similar to the way that most people who jog haven't ran in marathons. It's only one small part of the tradition!

Do yous know where the tenor went? Did it get scrapped, or is it still in the tower? Or did the Keltek Trust get it?
@SamHallas19493 жыл бұрын
No I don't. The ringers at St Mary's could tell you. I understand there's no sentimentality in the ringing world and bells are routinely melted down for re-casting.

@@SamHallas1949 It doesn't seem to have worked out, now the remaining big bell is being recast!! 🤷🤷
@SamHallas1949 Жыл бұрын
Is that so? I haven't seen the St Mary's ringers for some time so haven't heard.

@@SamHallas1949 Yes the tenor is being recast. I am unsure of the reasoning, but I think it will be made slightly heavier.
@SamHallas1949 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Jason. I must find out if the ringers are going to do a peal for the coronation.

Sad to think that Whitechapel Bell Foundry has since closed, leaving only one working foundry in the UK.
@adamm26933 жыл бұрын
There's a few others now, ain't there? There is of course Taylors, but Higby's also cast some smaller bells, and Westley's has been casting bells for a few years now, all of which are very high quality!

There are also a few foundries that have worked closely with English bellfounders, including Eijsbouts of the Netherlands and Allanconi of Italy
