Come with me on my St Neots Pub crawl. One with a difference because we visit pubs that are open now and visit have a look at lost pubs as well. It’s quite surprising how many pubs used to around in St Neots. Many pubs or should I say ‘lost’ drinking holes are now private homes. Some pubs are lost forever as they have been pulled down and other buildings have been built. Thanks for watching.... Andy

The Engine and Tender was demolished in the very late 80's. We lived in the houses across from it. A good video. Some nice memories.

@@andrewwardmedia It really is sad. At one point when I was at school in the late 80s' St Neots was famous for having more pubs per head of population than any other town in Cambridgeshire. Now, we hardly have any.

Walking past the Cross Keys was great to see. I grew up and used to live in St. Neots from '76 through to '93. I think that's where there used to be an arcade of shops. I remember the barber shop within, and the best barber at the time was Steve. I believe he moved to the opposite side of the Market Place, near to the video store. If he's still working in the area, I'm sure he'd have a lot of tales to tell about the area. Would be great to here some of his tales. Love the video, Andrew. and oh boy The Golden Ball has changed! Subbed!

Andy great video you missed one or two but a pint in each one should have been the object ! The pub opposite the Weeping Ash was called The Wrestlers, The Bushell and Strike in Brook Street, The Three Tuns in the High Street and The Kings Head in South Street.

Another interesting video Andy, thanks a lot. Have you heard of all aboard boating in Eaton Socon? They do boat hire. You could do a video of the town as seen from the river for a different perspective. I have no connection to them but have hired a couple of boats with friends and thoroughly enjoyed it.

This was really interesting Andy! Isn’t it funny how our brains don’t even register when buildings are no longer what they used to be?! I’ve driven past The Woolpack several times & it never registered it was no longer open.. I can’t help but feel sad these are now private residences, because it’s like a chunk of history is lost really. I used to work in The Wait For The Wagon in Wyboston, opposite McDonald’s, a quiet little pub, mostly for the villagers but once a year we’d have the grass track racers in & all hell would break lose 😂 a good (& very exhausting!) night was always had by all. I drive past it & often wonder if it’s still open, it looks like it’s closed these days which makes my heart sad. You’re correct on The Coach House! The courtyard bit used to be called The Works during the 90’s / early 00’s. You missed a couple of pubs up the top near the bridge! The Priory (now the Brook & Barter I believe - unsure if you’d class it as a pub though, I suppose it’s more of a bar!) - but you missed a pub that you’ve already visited in a previous video 😉 The Old Falcon! That was attached to the club called Charlie’s I think, & then the little wine bar? I think they were all connected. They still go back & fourth about turning that building into flats.. I really hope they don’t, but one of the reasons the ‘clubs’ in town lost profit is because the local neighbours complained about them going on until the small hours on a Friday / Saturday night, so they had to close at midnight, which is really early for a night out. It’s sad seeing the demise for such beautiful architecture & history. You also had Paines Brewery & Bull Hotel, but I’m not sure if it was a pub or just an inn / brewery. An old school friend many years ago moved to St Neots & her parents rented the Corner House / Golden Ball, upstairs always spooked me out, haha! Just had a weird vibe about it! Thanks for the walk around Andrew, nice to reminisce. My vote for future videos will always be history based videos, I think we’re fortunate to live in a town steeped in history ! Take care :) x

Hi Laura, thanks for your comments. G look ad u liked the video. You’re right about the pubs or bars I missed. I remember when editing the video I forgot the Brook &Barter or the Priory as it was known before. Why I didn’t include the Falcon in the market square I forgot as well, getting old I suspect lol, especially as I had been inside it ha ha. Anyway, once again thanks for watching and your interesting comments.

Hi. Nice to what has happened to some of the old pubs in town. One which you did not mention is the Peacock. It was just down from the engine and tender on the corner of Victoria and Albert terrace. I mention this because it was owned by great grandfather and grandmother. Because of the housing shortage after the war ( up till the early 50s) my parents and I loved their until a council house was available in Leys road. We moved out when i was about 1 year old. All the best DP

Andrew if you can find a copy of St Neots history of a huntingdonshire town by C F Tebbutt it has a wealth of details on st neots street by street. It has a long list of pubs in the index. Paine and co's tap room on the market square (the bulls head ) was always worth a visit. My uncle was head brewer!
