Can someone tell me what the significance of the columns and statues are @1:56? I’ve been searching for the answer to this question for over 10 years and no one can seem to tell me what it is.

I did some research and this is what I found: There are 284 columns and 88 pilasters made of Roman travertine and above the columns are 140 statues of saints. The statues were created in 1670 by students of Bernini, but Bernini was pretty much responsible for the entire colonnade. I believe it's supposed to represent the overextended arms of the church embracing the world.

ROME - Vatican magistrates have decided that one priest accused of sexually abusing underage altar boys who served in St. Peter’s Basilica, and another accused of facilitating that abuse, will be put on trial, according to a statement released Tuesday. Uh, since your comment is meaningless, some further comment IS necessary. Allow me to supply it. I am tempted to say that there will be an eternal separation of Protestants and Catholics, the separation of Heaven and Hell. That would not be completely true however, only mostly true. I have often told people what's important is not the label but the actual contents. You could have a jar labeled "honey" but if you see cigarettes floating in brown water you're not likely to open it. Similarly, what God sees is our heart, not our various labels. If you are trusting in anything but the finished work of Christ on the cross, the doom of hell is upon you. If you are adding your own supposed merits to the perfect merit of Christ, you are insulting Christ and blaspheming His name. Repent!
