St Peter’s Basilica is reverse gigantic engineered. It is designed to look smaller than it actually is. The most spectacular man made object I’ve ever seen. Definitely a must see
@Spright91 Жыл бұрын
Thats what I thought looking at it. Its a church for giants. Everything is in proportion just huge.
@monsieurm69756 жыл бұрын
Speechless, just totally speechless. The scale of this gigantic building can’t be appreciated until you see it in person. What a gorgeous testament to the creative geniuses and masters who constructed this utterly massive basilica in the name of St. Peter and in the name of our Lord.
@mchlbk4 жыл бұрын
In the name of silly superstition. But it's a wonderful piece of art.
@maricelvillegas79194 жыл бұрын
Without the inspiration of the Holy Spirit this can't be done. Imagine even the painting like are mosaic? The Lord really want only the grand for His One and True Church. The Jewish failed the Lord, so He need to establish a Church in honor of His Only Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. He allowed the destruction of the Temple He instructed to be built in His honor because His chosen people abandon their Covenant with Him many times, even rejecting and killing the Messiah.

I had the privilege of going here and it was astonishing. An acquaintance of mine told me he would be visiting Italy soon. I told him the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica were a must. "Ehhh, I dunno," he responded. "I'm not really the religious type." Some people just don't get it. You don't have to be religious (I'm not) to appreciate the architecture, artistry, history, and scope of such an amazing place. Every single piece of work inside has its own amazing history. I hope I can return one day -- but there's so much more to see in the world! And to all those people saying that you can see everything in Rome in one day -- no can't! Give yourself a full day for just the Vatican and SPB. Then you still have the coliseum, the pantheon, the trevi fountain, the roman forum, the spanish steps, the Victor Emmanuel II National Monument, and so much more. Great food in the Trastevere area and cacio e pepe is a must-have.
@tommyrobinson98624 жыл бұрын
People who say that must be blind, Rome and Italy are abundant in art, architecture and history. But I guess if you don't like any of that it's not much to see. I visited St Peters basilica when I was in Rome and to be quite frank you would need several days just to get an overall look at most of the stuff in there. First time your brain can't even comprehend 30 % of it! It's unbelievable.

@peepinR3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I'm not religious myself but I am a history nut! And the scale of the place is astonishing but so are so many churches in that place. The churches there do triple duty: a place of worship, art museum and history museum. Rome is great! It's smelly though once you get out of the touristy areas though. ; )

During the year when I was studying in Rome I would often take a walk to St. Peter's. As incredible as it may seem, sometimes there were less than 10 people in the entire basilica. A profoundly different experience from the one shown here. More reverent contemplation of the church's aesthetic grandeur without the thousand+ tourists. Still, I must give credit to you for making such a thorough and well executed documentation. You have captured the comprehensive scale, color and details of this space, its sculptural elements and surfaces. Thank you.

Breath taking splendour. Builders of the old took painstaking time, years and multitudes of people. The whole structure, building with all the huge columns is really one giant sculpture in marble. It was in the times of no lathes or rotary machinery.

I enjoy this walk through with people much as it was when I visited in 2007. Having heard so much about Rome and the Vatican I was expecting that I might be let down upon actually getting there but it all turned out to be far greater and awesome than I could have ever imagined.

Going back this October, bringing my son and his girlfriend. This has made me all the more excited! I can not wait to watch my son fall in love with Rome as I did!

Delores Flora: Saint Peter's is not in Rome. It is in Vatican City, an independent state and the smallest in the world..

I've been there twice. The first time in 1997 and again in 2001.. I don't remember the lines being that long both times I was there. What does stick out in my memory is seeing Michaelangelo's Pieta.

Bill Bergendahl I was born in Rome consequently I’ve been many times. I was 16 years old (I’m 71 now) when I visited the first time and, I was amazed by the whole of St Peter but mostly awestruck by La Pietà. There are no words to describe it.

I saw the Pieta when the Vatican sent it to the Montreal World's Fair in 1967. I vividly remember it not just for the indescribable beauty but there were some young Israelis in front of us in line. As we were working our way forward they had a radio and the first report if the 1967 war came over. They were going iver to the Israeli pavilion to see if their units had been called up and we followed to get more information.

The Pieta is dramatic - one could swear God created it though the hands of Michelangelo. Rome has become extremely congested over the last few years. At times, it is wall-to-wall people, so line-up are very common for practically anything. Effectively, the tourists are ruining the place.

Apsco Radiales as much as I know what you mean but, I wouldn’t swear. Michelangelo was a genius just the same many other geniuses. He was however deeply religious. Between his genius and his belief he was highly committed to his art.
