@@TrailRunningCouple I've heard it's tricky to find the start of the route first time you do it, was it quite straight forward? I've not been up that side of the valley before
@TrailRunningCouple

We didn’t find it too bad though it was marked on our GPS watches and ViewRanger. I can see how some may struggle to find it though as you could end up going up one of the gullies instead.

Saw your post in the Facebook scrambling group asking about fast and light winter footwear that'll take a crampon. What did you go with in the end??
@TrailRunningCouple

We opted for Salomon S/Lab XA Alpine 2’s and have used them with both Kahtoola Microspikes and Kahtoola KTS Crampons. An excellent combination although not cheap 👍
@CarterCreativeContent

@@TrailRunningCouple Been looking at the same combo!.. My only concern is how they cope in boggy conditions as they're not gore-tex. How's the waterproofing?? Thanks in advance 👌🏼

@@CarterCreativeContent They have a water resistant membrane or whatever Salomon call it. We used them with Sealskinz socks on a snowy rainy run though a multitude of terrain for around 10hrs and still had dry feet. More importantly, warm feet!

Honestly they really are good and work perfectly for us, especially with a pair of Sealskinzs socks. This was one of the routes we did where we still had dry feet at the end! kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHmph6Guo5WFi9E

Fantastic video! I am guessing that your partner did the crux chimney twice in order to get the action shot you wanted?

Hi Scott, I went up the corner first whilst Cheryl took footage then came back down and ascending for a second time behind Cheryl. I did intend to take footage of Cheryls full ascent but quickly needed both hands! It’s a great scramble and thanks for your comment 👍

Looks like you have missed a lot of the ridge by going up the gully on the left side?
@TrailRunningCouple
@TrailRunningCouple 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure to be honest. Our aim was to scramble the ‘crux’ corner and the Pinnacle. I’m sure there’s other scrambling on the way up too but we went directly up to the grade 3 bit.

Well at least they did manage to find the crux corner, but until then they were well off-route (too far left). This is not a good video to watch for anyone who doesn't already know the scramble.

For us it was all about scrambling up the corner and the pinnacle. Wasn’t sure if there was a correct way to get to them but that’s the way we went! It was in the middle of a run so wasn’t going to mess around too much anyway.
@davidrobinson7684
@davidrobinson7684 4 ай бұрын
@@TrailRunningCouple Yes, there's a correct way in the sense that the established route (up the rocky ridge just left of the right-bounding gully) is almost all on clean rock well supplied with big holds and is a delight to follow, leading directly and satisfyingly to the crux corner and pinnacles.

Yeh, thought this at the start, but fantastic video all the same! Went up for the first time today: greasy and claggy, but a fantastic line. So came here to see what the view would've been like!!

Is this as difficult as people say? I’m planning on heading up there on Sunday to give it a go.
@TrailRunningCouple
@TrailRunningCouple 2 жыл бұрын
Difficulty wise it’s hard to say. It’s definitely a solid Grade 3. We didn’t use ropes as you saw but can totally see why some would want fall protection as if it goes wrong you’re in serious trouble. If you’re not feeling ‘the corner (the crux)’ there’s a bypass up the left hand side you you do have options. I know the first time we stood at the foot it looked very imposing and committing. It’s a great scramble/climb though.
