Excellent filming brings it all back. We made the mistake of descending via the Clachaig Gulley as it appeared to be the quickest way to the pub, brutal especially with tired legs. My wife and I are now in our late 70s, so having ‘walked’ the ridge, twice for me(once in winter), we can content ourselves with holding the heights we won. Thank you for bringing back such happy memories. Steve

I’ve done the ridge traverse twice, in summer and also in winter. Great video guys - drone really brings to life how exposed and spectacular it is. I always pronounced it ann-ach ay-ach ( means notched ridge apparently)

That was a really good video. Brought back some great memories. I did it solo in May 2008 having got a lift up to the start with 4 climbers from Wales. I set off thinking that if anything happened I'd be OK as the climbers were behind me. What I didn't quite factor in was that they would not be able to help me if I slipped off! Back in 2006 I did the Skye Munros with a guide. One of the questions I had was: had he ever had anyone fall off? (We were only roped up for a few sections). His reply gave me the confidence to eventually attempt the Aonach Eagach - never - people are so focused on what they were doing. I would not have attempted it without the experience on Skye.

That is a fine vid, and sensible advice. 40 years since I last did that. A magic route. Be fit. Strength helps. (TBH I've found the toughest bit is getting up Am Bodach in the morning - it is a bit of a brute. And it isn't a Munro - doesn't count. There is a Munro called Am Bodach , in the Mamores not far away. The name translates as 'Old Man''. Like me but I'm not a Munro either.) If the weather is iffy, either stay in the pub or make sure you have the experience and the kit. It can sock in there in minutes - I've been caught on Bidean nam Bian across the glen in 20 minutes.

Really good video images guys well done. Yes water was an issue I consumed around 3 Liters. I did it myself and a friend in very late September 2022 (aged 55) it was nice and calm/cool about 7 or 8 degrees Celsius at the top, by far the toughest ive done with no ropes used - although taken, may try it in winter time with snowy condition, and be fully prepared crampons ice axes and ropes etc

For a winter traverse you'll need to move quickly as benightment is a real risk with the short daylight hours and possibly tricky conditions. If you are not experienced with ropework, that will also slow you down considerably.

@@davidrobinson7684 Hi David, it something I want to give a try in the snow/ice - but little to nil wind, maybe someone with more experience than myself could tag along , but also iam quite happy to stay up there overnight if needed , almost bought a Samaya 2.5 tent but its still a little pricy at the mo- for an expedition like this.

I did this with no climbing experience and it was friggin terrifying. When the guides say 'some climbing experience and a good level of fitness required' they don't mean 'assume it'll be fine and you'll be awrite'. One slip and you're a gonner.

an excellent video, brought back happy memories of climbing it on a day with similar weather. I also climbed on a day with horrendous weather, with thick cloud and no views. The clear blue sky day was the scariest because you could see exactly how far down the drops went

An excellent video with great drone footage. Just pick up on one point the Am Bodach you referred to is north of you in the Mamores. The one on your ridge isn’t a Munro. That aside the video is a very good watch.

The crazy pinnacles section looks a bit like Crib Goch in terms of narrowness and exposure but with more hands-on-rock scrambling. I wonder if most of the battle is mental rather than physical or technical.

I have been fortunate enough to complete Crib Goch last summer and the Aonoch Eagach for the second time this summer. In my opinion, as a reasonably fit old git with a fear of heights, the challenge is indeed more mental than physical but with the Glencoe ridge more demanding on both counts.

It's not the narrowest ridge in the UK, it's the narrowest ridge on the mainland of Great Britain. The narrowest ridges in the UK are on Skye and Arran.

for anyone new to the ridge, the first descent can ba a real sphincter tightener, specially when you realise there is no escape route, and unless you've got balls the size of water melons dont even think about it in winter.😁

Looks like you guys came down off the ridge via the Clachaig Gully route. That's the traditional route and most direct path down, but avoiding it entirely is highly recommended these days as the ground is extremely steep, heavily eroded, and sadly its the site of numerous fatalities in recent years. The alternative is to continue West and head down to join the Pap of Glencoe path. This is also very steep with a lot of scree underfoot 90% of the way down, but it's considered to be marginally safer. Regardless, great video and good detail on what to expect on the crazy pinnacles!

Agreed clachaig gully route is an accident black spot. Pap of glencoe route is fine but adds a bit of time getting to the pub

Brilliant video, the filming is excellent. I really like how the filmmakers show the awkwardness of the climbs. The only thing that grates at the nerves is the woeful pronunciation of the Gaelic names. Why do English people think it is beneath them to pronounce non-English words correctly?

Yeh, we all had a god amount of outdoor climbing experience before we tackled the ridge. I'd say if you don't have much climbing experience it's going to be a scary and potentially dangerous day out! Like some of the other comments have said, there have been fatalities on the ridge.

It's really your mental ability to deal with the exposure that counts on this ridge, the scrambling itself is actually not that hard

@@JamesStevenson-t6c 'not that hard' is totally subjective, depending on ones scrambling experience and ability. Lack of experience and over confidence in ones ability is the biggest risk. This is one to work up to, learning scrambling and climbing techniques and plenty of experience on grade one and then less challenging grade two scrambles. You'll know when you are ready, if you're not sure, you are NOT ready and have a much higher chance of becoming a statistic. If it's for bragging rights rather than part of natural progression in climbing/mountaineering then I would question whether ego it the biggest risk factor that is getting the better of calm and measured decision making.
